Question about Heating & Cooling

1 Answer

Hello my Goodman WMC24A Split Unit is not working. I had it for 6 yrs with no problems. I turn it on and the fan kicks on but the Condenser unit does not. Does this unit need to be recharged with R22? If so, do I need to call someone to do that?

A few tings to check first. See if there is a float switch located at your inside unit. It may be tripped if so you have a stopped up drain. You can clear this yourself by useing a wet vac out side and **** the restriction from the outside. Check your breaker to the outside unit. May be tripped. Goodman does not have alow pressure control so even if it is low on gas it will run. Try these ywo items and last call a service tech but get free estimate before you commit. RUSS

My Goodman split unit has bumping/knocking noise sometimes (not everyday) when heat first kicks on in the mornings only. What could this be? Also in defrost mode should the unit blow cold air?

May be the fan in the external unit is ruined or the internal pump is comming loose. But note that the pump also make much effort until the gas flows smoothly through the pipes .

Goodman air condenser is humming but the fan does not come on

The most likely cause is the fan motor has failed. If it turns free then see if the capacitor is bad. Turn off the power remove the capacitor. Your local supply houses can test it for you.

We have a goodman split unit, It was below freezing the other morning and the unit had a squeaking sound when it started up. Now it has warmed back up, the unit is sounding as if it's trying to kick off...

The symptoms seem to be related to the main blower motor and/or it's capacitor. Turn the system off for a couple of minutes and then turn just the fan on while the thermostats heat setting is in the off position. If the lights still dim then replace the motor and capacitor. The clicking noise is the fan relay.

Condenser fan will not turn on, although I can hear the relay click. This is a Goodman 3.5 ton unit about 12 yrs old.

Is the compressor running? If not then check the disconnect or fuses. If it is then make sure the fan turns freely and check the fan capacitor. Replace it if it is bad. If the capacitor is good then check the fan motor windings and replace the fan motor if the winding are open. Let me know what you find.

You amy ahave a bvad capacitor on the outside unit. It starts the fan and the compressor. You can change this yourself. Open the outside panel and you will see a silver canister with terminals out the top. Replace this and I think your problem will go away. On the cap. it will say something like 30uf 5uf 370 ot 440 Just get these numbers and get a new one. Russ
