HDMI is the best method as VGA is low density video. You may have to set up the laptop to send data output to the HDMI/VGA port (Out to the TV). Your manual should spell out the procedures to change from Computer Internal Video to Video OUT.

Hi, maybe there's no video coming out from CPU HDMI port , and that's why monitor returns to DVI input, to test monitor HDMI input you can use another HDMI video source, as a DVD or Bluray player.

Try reinstalling the drivers for your audio/video components, sounds like you're missing a driver somewhere.

The drivers may need to be re-installed. The drivers for the VGA and the HDMI are different as the HDMI also does the High Def audio. Look on the ATI site for the "Catalyst Suite" for your card. then just follow the instructions. It allows you to set up the ports individually. I hope this helps.

I see that you are having an error check signal cable.

Have you tried selecting the correct Input for the LG LCD monitor?

make sure that the Correct Input is selected properly to be able to detect the signal from the HDMI cable that you are using.

The audio will not confuse the video on an HDMI Video will be detected as long as the Input on the LCD monitor is selected.

Audio on the HDMI will only work if the HDMI driver is provided like on a desktop computer you will need to get the driver for the HDMI for Audio and video to come out using an HDMI cable but never will audio conflict to the HDMI video output.

There a few options you can check: first of all, try to hook an audio cable to the TV. Some laptops do not support hdmi as audio output.
also, I would try to check if your hdmi audio device is set in your audio controls. Appaarently, in most cases the laptop speakers are playing by default, which means you will have to set the hdmi audio yourself. Right click on the volume control icon in your desktop (minimized icons, to your right), then go to playback devices (depends on your windows of course), then check if the hdmi is active or not.

Your laptop has to have an HDMI output and the tv has to have an HDMI input. Put the tv on that HDMI source inpput, the laptop will sense the new device and install a driver for it, which is your video driver. Your video driver has to be capable of driving two monitors. The best bet here is to update the video drivers. When it senses the TV, the tv will show what the computer monitor shows and windows will ask you if you want to use the tv as the primary or leave the setting as they are and run both monitors. Whatever you choose, when you power down either the tv or the computer the computer will sense the change and revert back to the default settings.

Is it possible you uninstalled the driver for the HDMI video card in other to get the new video card to work? if so you will need to remove the HDMI video card and replace the standard card, start up the computer and reinstaill the driver for the HDMI card.

Please provide the driver link to the ATI HDMI applications. its a known problem from ATI

There is acompany that makes such a converter BUT it is getting hard to get because HDCP (hd copy protection) can be bypassed with it. I will get the company name for you but search ebay for a hdmi to component converter. It works pretty well. You may need to get the HDMI to DVI converter cable for $8 as well.
