Question about Sony Televison & Video

1 Answer

My window was open during a freak thunderstorm and my 40'' sony got splashed not too severely from what i found, upon inspection through the ventilation holes at the top. I cant see any signs of water landing on the board but a few small drops of water sitting on the inner plastics/moldings. Is it worth opening her up and cleaning the board with alcohol or should i just air it for a few days and switch it on. By the way it was on standby when it happened, didnt get a chance to see if the standby light was still on i just ripped the power straight out.

Just let it sit for at least 6-7 days and that will allow it to dry, dont open it up if you dont have to

After a brief power outage during a thunderstorm my canon i9900 will not turn on. I left it un pluged for several hours and then repluged it and still nothing. Everything else in the office works fine.

The power supply of your printer are damage due to the brief power output during the thunderstorm. Just check the fuse inside of the power supply of the printer if they have some burned or else use the Multi Tester to identify that the fuse are damage or needed for replacement.

Powers up, all lights buttons seem to work, but no sound

This can happen. Lightening causes static charge that can be picked up by speaker wires. It is possible ONE of the amplifiers has failed.
To check, have the room quiet. Turn on the amp. After 5 to 10 seconds there should be a nice solid 'CLICK' from inside the amp. If there is no click, the unit is in safety mode. You will need a service shop.

My playstation 3 started freezing now wont load games or dvds

Blow out PS3 thoughly with air and make sure it can breathe. They do not do well in entertainment centers. They overheat. Which one do you have the smaller one or the bigger HD one. The 40 gig one has a different videocard that likes to overheat and freak out a lot. (If you dont have a card reader but you have a 80 gig HD then thats the "new" small one, and its junk too. Send back to Sony if you need it fixed).

Garage door opener quit working, wont open, light not lit,

Upon closer inspection I found that the power board had burnt. Weve had several power surges after the ice storm and apparently one weakend the unit. Price for the board (from craftsman) is like 80.00 and not knowing what else may have took a hit I replaced whole unit for 140.00.

Loss of Power

Without a professional inspection no one can tell you if it is an easy fix or not. It could be as simple as an internal fuse blew or as costly as damaged circuitry. It would be worth a phone call to a repair center, $75 is around what they charge to tell you what the problem is.

Had a severe thunderstorm yesterday (7/23/08). Lightening hit the transformer, all power was out for 6 hours. 3 Televisions. 1, hooked up to modem works fine, 1 hooked up to cable reciever only gets static...

Upon researching various websites regarding the Model Number for those 2 televisions that blew out, I found a few other people around the US that had the same problem with similar situations. All involving massive thunderstorm power-outages.

It appears that since out TV's are both 5-6 years old, they are worthless, both covered under homeowners but for almost nothing. It's not worth fixing. So, decided to purchase 2 more lower quality televisions as this will most likely happen again when the next storm hits. Thank god we found out that this is a repeat issue before we purchased a really expensive television.

Stop!Clean area around all tactil switches and replace any that are defective. One or more of your function select switches up front is shorted---sending a continuous signal to the micro IC.Good, used switches are fine, but must have same physical parameters as originals.
