Question about Dell 1450 (D1450U) Wireless Adapter

1 Answer

Wireless USB fails after 5 minutes

Dell 1450 Wireless USB connection drops after about 5 minutes and will not reconnect by resetting connection etc., the only solution is to reboot the PC.

Additionally the system has a tendency to freeze after the drop occurs and sometimes results in the "blue screen of death"

Any ideas on how to resolve would be appreciated.

I have a Dell wireless 1450 Wirless usb adapter but do not have the disc. What should I do to have it working?

I have the dell 1450 and couldn't connect to my BT Home hub 2.0. either. I appreciate it's not really an answer but I swapped to a different wi-fi adapter and was straight in, no bother. It's some kind of issue with the security key - without security the 1450 was fine, as it was with my old Draytek plus security. I guess I could have spent hours on trying to understand why the 1450 and hub won't get along but a few quid on a different card seemed a better bet! One thing - there is certainly an issue and BT support don't know about it.

My main computer is vista, the one with wireless router , but I want to use my xp computer with the dell 1450 wireless usb adapter. it won't work

Dell do not provide support for vista on the 1450 USB adapter - see here http://support.dell.com/support/topics/global.aspx/support/dsn/en/document?c=us&cs=19&l=en&s=bsdv&dl=false&docid=20075A1DBD60D650E0401E0A55175C46&doclang=en
I have not tried this - but found on another forum http://www.vistaforums.com/Forum/Topic5380-21-1.aspx olution:
  1. 1) Install the Dell 1450 USB drivers on a PC with XP32 (assuming your target machine is 32-bit)
  2. 2) Copy the "2K" drivers from the install directory ( c:\program files\dell wireless ) to a flash drive.
  3. 3) Copy the "2K" drivers from the flash drive to the Vista machine. After you plug in your 1450 choose to manually select the driver then browse to that folder. You should be up an running in a few seconds.
The extra connection manager software that came with the adapter won't run on Vista but you'll still get a good wireless connection.

Dell 1450 Wireless Adapter is losing the connection after 5 minutes and then can't find the connection again without re-starting the computer. Frustrating!

Here are a few suggestions:

1. make sure that in device manager this device is set so that it does not get turned off to save power. (Start-Control Panel-System-Hardware-Device Manager-Network Adapters-Right-Click the wireless card-properties), also do the same for the USB ports

2. Install the latest drivers from - support.dell.com (since it is a USB Device, if installing latest version of the 1450 drivers does not fix it also update the BIOS and Chipset Drivers of your system)

3. Check for interference, especially from 2.4GHZ cordless phones

Check to see if the same thing happens when you take it to someone else's house.

I hope some of these suggestions help

Dell wireless 1450 usb adapter

any wireless router will be ok, they are all the same standard normally 802.11G, but if your adapter is 54MBPS go for a 54G router, or if 108MBPS, go for the faster router.
