Hi I have had a optical track ball for a while, and when 1st used it worked fine , then all of a sudden one day no cursor showed up, nothing happens when I left click or right, the light shines around the ball but nothing else.
I have taken to PC World who plugged it into one of theirs and still nothing , they could not give a reason. Any solutions ???

Bad sensor on the tb's internal PCB. Replacement is in order, unless you like to exceed your repair to replacement costs...accordianman

Optical track ball is sticking. How clean it and what to avoid?

An "optical" mouse has *NO* track-ball.

If you do have a mouse with a track-ball, then rotate the "ring" that holds the track-ball inside the mouse, to "unlock" the ring. Remove the ring. Look inside the mouse. You'll see two rollers.
Look for accumulated "gunk" in a ring at the center of each roller. Gently scrape each roller, to clean it. Re-insert the mouse. Re-insert the ring. Rotate it, to "lock" the ring into place.

Mouse cursor shown on desktop but it's not moving.

Remove the four screws from the bottom casing of the track ball. Carefully push the ball from the topside causing the case to come apart. Remove the ball and take an alcohol wipe and gently clean the area where the ball sits and the optical eye that the ball rest looks like a little window that is on the side of the area in which the ball rest in. Put ball back in the recess and put case back together. Replace screws and you should be good to go!

Cursor jumps all over with a touch of the mouse why

trackballs and other ball mouses have an optical sensor inside the cup that holds the ball. dirt, lint and debris that falls into the optical sensor can make the cursor jump around - the sensor detects the debris as if it were a ball movement. Clean the inside of the cup and the jumping should stop.

Cleaning the cup -- first clean the three points that hold the ball up. They tend to grap whatever dirt or grease gets onto the ball from the user's hand. Clean the rectangular sensor window with a que-tip or by blowing into it. Get any stuck debris out of the corners. Finally, turn the mouse over, without the bal inside, and tap it on a hard surface. This can knock loose any remaining debris that can fall into the sensor window.

Cursor sliding off screen

I?ve had this problem in several Logitech mice. In every one of my cases the problem was resolved by uninstalling the driver and reinstalling the latest OR just using the default Windows driver. In some cases with USB mice I had to shut down the PC, remove the original mouse and replace with a standard PS2 mouse, remove and reinstall the driver and then reattach the USB mouse without rebooting. After a successful test you can shutdown the PC and remove the PS2 mouse. Let us know if that works and if you have any other questions and thanks in advance for rating this post.
