Question about Apple eMac G4 Desktop

1 Answer

I have a wireless lan connection (usb addition), and I'm trying to get a connection through my desktop G4 mac (using system 10.3.9) - I can see a network but it won't connect through any browser. What do I need to do to connect? Thanks (p.s. the usb lan connector works with my laptop at home but not at work where I'm trying to connect the desktop.)

Does your work have a password to log into the network? If so you may not be able to use your laptop unless they let you. Talk to your IT's at work.

Connecting g4 to wpa2 network; option is only wpa

Hi Tom,

Bad news, the old G4 Laptop does not support that protocol...
You can either change the Wireless security int eh router to simple WEP or purchase a wireless PC Card that supports WPA2
but then again.. investing in an old G4 Laptop???
Can you simply run a cable ?

G4 network settings

This is often a problem with Airport cards becoming defective over time. You mention that you have tried with an ethernet connection as well. When trying, make sure you disable your wireless connection.
In addition, make sure that you are not using a static IP address or, if one is required, that you try assigning a different IP outside of your DHCP scope as you can be experiencing IP address conflicts.

I have a Mac G4 desktop. It froze up so I restarted using the power button and when it came up it had a blinking question mark inside a folder. It will not do anything even after restarting several times....

This means the mac can not find the system to start up, you can try holding down the alt key as you start the mac, this may bring up a choice of systems to boot from if not then try holding down the shift key at startup, as this will boot without extensions loading. If none of this works then you need the startup dvd that came with the mac, if you dont have it the you need a retail copy of the mac os that will boot your mac , if its g4 then osx 10.3 or 10 .4 will work.

How to get wireless on it

If your Mac Mini does not have an Airport built in, you can purchase a USB Wireless Antennae from most any electronics store. Just make sure to check and make sure that it says it compatible with Mac OS X.
If you mean how do you "set up" wireless with it, you will need an internet connection and a wireless router, which are also cheap and common.

Trouble connecting Power Mac G4 Airport saying "invalid password"

WPA is supported by both the Airport Extreme and Mac OS versions 10.3.
It's possible you need to change your encryption specification on the Netgear to "Shared Key" instead of the default "Open."

Have a 2003 desktop Mac G4 and want to enable wireless connection

It depends on the speed of your iMac as to which AirPort card you need. The 700/800 machines use the original version while the 1ghz uses the AirPort Extreme wireless card. You can find both on sites like eBay

Cannot connect to the internet

how are you trying to connect it? if you have wired internet, just plug the LAN cable at the RJ-45 LAN port of your laptop and you will be connected. You must have set your LAN Adapter to get IP Address automatically. Also, if you have a wireless network adapter, if you set it up to get IP address automatically, you can connect to available wifi zone.

Start from scratch. Go back to your main computer and create a USB key and try that way.

Wondering, is your MAc setup for wireless?

Another thought, i had the same issue connecting my Mac to my parents wireless. I used the installation disc and that solved that.

Internet connection

The only way to replace the network card is to replace the logic board in this unit, however if you are running 10.5, you can purchase an external USB to ethernet adapter at a local Apple retailer and you can hook the computer to the network through that adapter
