Denon drw585. Both decks will not close with tape inserted. No other signs of life except light in rear of cavity. Roller mech seems to be blocking tape entry. Is it a sensor switch/arm? Thanks.

PS, the display did later flicker on and power up for a half second, then died again. Illumination behind tape window still on.

It seems to me that the mechanism has got stuck in play mode, or at least was ready to go into play mode. It's either down to a cog mechanism that moves the parts into place and has become jammed, or that a belt that moves the mechanism forward has come off.

SOURCE: Denon Dual Cassette Deck DRW-660 will not eject either tape

Some dual decks use a common drive belt. It may have become too slack (due to age) to drive mechanism. I am sure its time to change all belts in both decks. This will solve the problem

The deck will need new belts and idler drives cleaned and serviced, and perhaps some idler tyres replaced. You can get a belt kit from these guys. replacing them is not such a difficult job if you have some mechanical aptitude. Just take it slowly, and focus on getting the transport out of the unit.

SOURCE: Cassette Tape stuck

The problem here is that the unit is stuck in a partial position. The "reset" by unplugging and plugging back in usually causes the unit to reset to a known position. If there is no activity (no motor sound), it will need to be opened up and reset manually. If you hear the motor running for a short period, it is attempting to reset, but the belt is most likely worn or broken. These units are relatively simple, but a bit tricky to dis-assemble. This repair should not require anything other than a belt or 2. Figure on $3-$10 for parts plus the local labor rate for the repair.

Hi there
It is probable that the head assembly or pinch roller assemblies are not returning to their correct rest position. The arms that carry the pinch roller assemblies develop dried grease problems in the bearing/post they are mounted to that prevent their timely return and fouling the casette shell preventing eject. Check them by seeing if they are clearing the cassette shell, and are "sprung into the home position with out binding.

The mechanism maybe out of alignment. Technicians and a service manual is how this gets fixed. The new belts are put in an the mechanism is position to the stop mode for the eject to work.

My Teac 4070G reel to reel tape deck rewind and fast forward functions work, but the play function does not. Any ideas? Could it be a circuit?

Without actually seeing your Teac reel deck, i suggest you verify that all fuzes in the deck are good..not blown. Also with a tape correctly installed..ensure that left and right tape tension arms are held under tension/ closed by tape tension, also ensure the capstan shaft is rotating... look in back to ensure the capstan drive motor is running.. if yes, and tape still will not play... problem could be a stuck/failed solenoid, dirty or corroded push buttons, or corrosion on contacts where rear circuit boards/plugs insert into other boards.

Sounds like a mechanical fault, you need to look around to see if anything has broken or fell off. Some decks use a solenoid to move rollers up and down, that could have a fault on it.

Clicking sound in tape deck

All Aiwas  are prone to this problem.  The doors are a real pain and easily give up the ghost.  I have 2, both probmatic in this direction.
I have spoken to others about this problem. Seems no easy fix.
Have you in your case, tried leaving and old tape in the tape part of your  unit . The noise you hear, usually starts when tape unit area doors are about to pack a wobbly. Unless under warrenty, proberly,
not worth getting fixed.    It seems something gets weak in the activation part and get a mind of its own.  Very common after about 3 yrs of ownership.  All the best: jamz
