Question about Denon Televison & Video

1 Answer

I have a denon receiver with mt sat boc and tv

I have a denon receiver with my sat box and tv connected through HDMI. I just got the unit repaired by denon as a power short caused it to malfuntion. I have it back and everything is working fine except for one thing.

When I had it setup before if I turned off the receiver it would keep the tv on and revert to the tv video and audio.

Now when I turn off the receiver I have a no signal message on my tv and no sound.

Any idea why this isn't working now?

Trust me I don't even have an optical cable and I labled every single cord to ensure the hookup was exact.

When I turned the receiver off everything reverted back to the TV, the sat signal, sound and video.

Additionally the TV I am working with has only one HDMI input so I know the connect is right. Sat to receiver, receiver to TV. It worked before like a charm now it doesn't.

    Any other thoughts?

All the connections are the same as I labled them. Additionally the TV only has one HDMI connection so it is a very simply setup, sat to receiver, receiver to TV.

It worked before and now it doesn't. As far as the optical cable I don't even own one. The setup was very basic not a lot of additional wiring.

    Any other thoughts?

HDMI won’t pass any signal when the receiver is off. I don’t think you use the same connections before sending receiver for repair. You can connect HDMI directly to TV, and use optical input to receiver for audio only.

How to hook up a denon avr -1706 receiver To a lg smart tv

If you are tuning in TV stations with the TV set, you will need either an optical or a coaxial audio cable to go from the digital audio out of the TV to a digital audio in on the receiver. This setup should give you 5.1 Dolby digital sound. You can also use a pair of red and white rca cables, but you will only have 2 channel sound. You may need to set the TV to output the audio to external speakers. You will need to set the receiver to the input the TV audio is connected to.

If you want to watch Sat or Cable, you probably need a couple of HDMI cables. One HDMI cable will go from the output of the Sat/Cable box to the appropriate HDMI input on the receiver. The second HDMI cable will go from the Monitor Out on the receiver to an HDMI Input on the TV. You may need to set the receiver to output HDMI audio from the receiver, and not the TV. You will need to set the TV to the HDMI Input you connected to on the TV. You will also need to set the receiver to the input the Sat/Cable box is connected to.

Details of both of these setups should be covered in the receiver and the TV manuals. Refer to them for the detailed connections and settings you need to make.

Good Luck!

I have a denon avr-1611 and can get sound playback through my connected speakers (not tv speakers) but no video output from hdmi. I have the receiver connected to a samsung tv. Is there any fix for th

You should check your Denon manual to be sure that the receiver has been set up correctly. My 1913 has many set up options including associating a particular HDMI out connection with a particular source like CBL/SAT or DVD. The fact that you hear sound indicates the HDMI cable connecting the cable box or DVD player to the receiver is working ( at least the sound portion of the HDMI in cable.)

Next, is the HDMI connection you are using to the TV the one selected in the source listing on the TV ? The sound and video circuitry on a receiver are separated and you can hear sound but see no video if the TV isn't selecting the correct source. For example if the TV is set to HDMI1 but you are plugged into HDMI 2. If this doesn't solve your problem try this:

At this point you don't know if the problem is the receiver HDMI connections or TV HDMI connections or a bad HDMI cable. The first thing to try is a new HDMI Cable. If that doesn't solve the problem then do the following.

If the TV has more than one HDMI connection try another HDMI port. Be sure to switch the source on the TV to the new HDMI port ie. HDMI1,HDMI2 or whatever.

If this fixes the problem you are done. If not then Try the same thing with the HDMI out ports on the receiver. Try each one not forgetting to set the receiver to use the HDMI port you are testing.
each time.

Since this can get confusing I would write down what you are testing each time so you don't get lost or confused.

If none of this works then you can try hooking up another TV to the HDMI cable, if you have one. If you do this and you still have a problem it points to the receiver as being the culprit.

The most likely problem is you have misconfigured the system so that is where I started. Each test is dependent on the fact that your system is correctly configured to begin with.

This is a site where you can download a manual. I'm not familiar with Denen however, you should be able to go out of satellite receiver(HDMI) to your receiver input(tv/sat) then to your HDMI input on tv. Your receiver might show video and sound through another port of receivers options, ie; video 1, video 2, etc. Check all putput options for your picture and sound. Hope this helps.

No picture with cable to denon AVR-589

Long and painful answer!!! However, in the end, you need to bypass HDMI thru your receiver and go direct to the TV. Connect Digital Coaxial or Optical for audio to your receiver. Your version of HDMI in your receiver is not compatable with today's HDMI version. Yours is 1.1a and the current version is 1.3b going to 1.4. If you want detailed info as to "why", just google "HDMI 1.1 problems" you can read for hours! Sorry for the bad news! However, it is what it is. Hope this helps. If you need further help with setup, post a comment and I can give you further help.

Our receiver is connected to our cable box via an HDMI cable. Picture and audio show up fine, then goes out for a minute and then comes back--this keeps happening. Every time the picture/sound disappear,...

Connect the TV directly to cable box to make sure the TV and cable box are ok. If you have picture then the receiver is no good. Some Denons have problem with HDMI board (digital unit).

Connection problem with HDMI cables on Denon AVR-589

Hello,
I want to clairify you install, you sat you have I an HDMI cable running from the Time Warner Cable box to the AVR-589, going in to the TV/CBL input. From the Denon AVR-589, I have an HDMI cable running from the output to my Toshiba RV525U television.

Check the connection at the TV, if as you indicated above you have an HDMI cable from the HDMI out from the Denon to an HDMI output on the TV, if this is the case you need to have that HDMI cable plugged into an input on the TV not an output

The best way to use the Denon and get your money's worth is to connect all devices to the Denon using HDMI connects if possible, if you use HDMI make sure you assign the audio if needed.
HDMI from Denon to TV. the Denon will upconvert all signals to HDMI to the TV
