Question about Kenmore 22422 Top Load Washer

Washing machine filled with water then just quit

Machine filled with water I put the clothes in then closed the lid. I came back a while later and the machine was still full like it had not done anything after the initial fill. I tried advancing the cycle control and starting it in different positions but nothing happened.

I have the same problem, washer fills with water then stops. I don't hear any motor noise and can advance manually to the rinse cycle where it fills again but won't does nothing at the wash and spin cycles. I have checked the lid switch by using a narrow to make contact and depress the switch but nothing happens. Can it still be a bad switch if I am making contact with it?

Check your lid switch to make sure it is functioning. If your washer fills and doesn't do anything, or stops right after the wash cycle and then does not advance to the rinse cycle or drain, the problem is commonly caused by a lid switch malfunction. The lid switch is usually mounted under the washer top casing, on the right hand side on most top load models. It is activated by a plastic piece on the lid (called a "Lid Strike") through a small hole on the rim of the wash tub opening. In many cases the lid strike breaks off the lid, or the lid switch becomes loose and no longer makes contact. Inspect the lid to make sure the lid strike is still intact, and then inspect the mounting screws (adjacent to the small opening on the wash tub rim) and make sure they are snug. If you determine the switch to be defective, the following link explains how to replace one:

If the switch requires replacement, a new one can be purchased on line at searspartsdirect.com, pcappliancerepair.com, repairclinic.com, appliancepartspros.com. Just use your model number as your search criteria. All these sites offer competitive pricing, so shop all them for the best price.

If you have any questions about this repair, or if you need additional assistance, please let me know. I hope this helps you.

Why does my washing machine turn off once filled with water and starts agitating? I put a close pin in the lid and it stays running.

That button in back of the lid is a safety interlock switch that shuts the machine down if someone were to open the door while the agitator is moving or spinning. It appears that your switch is very nearly activated even with the lid closed so that any vibration sets it off. Maybe your lid, even when closed, has moved away from the switch for some reason, perhaps a loose door hinge. It is possible the the switch itself has started to fail as well. However, if you have room to stick a clothes pin between the button and the edge of the opening, it seems like it is so far out normally that it is ready to trip on the slightest movement of the machine.

I see by the model number of your machine that it is possible quite old. Try this. Close the lid and see if you can push it back towards the button switch to determine if it is rather loose on the hinges. Also, with the lid closed try to slip a table knife blade between the button and the door lid. The blade should not fit, and especially if it fits sloppy, your lid is probably out of position for some reason.

I'm not familiar with roper washing machines so I'll ask the question does it have two fill hoses. Most European machines now only have one fill. If it has two then it sound like the machine takes the initial water from the one fill and the rinse cycle water from another. The humming sounds like the valve for the other fill needs replacing. These are quite inexpensive and easy to fit. Power off.. remove lid ....switch of water...take out valve when you establish which one is affected and replace

Machine will not agatate when clothes are in the machine

does the machine fill up with water? if you were to put the machine in drain/spin, does it drain/spin? if water comes in and it doesnt drain/spin, then your lid switch is bad. if the machine fills with water, drains but doesnt spin, the your motor coupling is worn.

Open the control panel and check the fuse inside at the lid switch. Also check continuity on the lid switch and the micro switch. They are all located in the same lid switch block.
Check the position of the plunger that activates the lid switch. It can become dislodged with a off-balance load.

This might be Lid cover open protection. There is a small magnet at the edge of the lid cover, housed in some sort of a catch.
If the plastic housing cracked, the magnet might have dropped into the washing drum. To overcome this, place a magnet on the position where the plastic catch will contact the washer when the lid is close.

MY WASHER FILLED UP WITH WATER, BUT THEN IT JUST QUIT WORKING.

I believe it is your lid switch. I have replaced 3 this week. If you get me the model number i can tell you for sure. Another thing that caused this is the motor to go bad. Do you smell a burning smell when it is trying to run after the fill up? If not get me the model number and i will get you the part number for the lid switch.

Close your external inlet valve to the machine. Disconnect hose of washing machine from the valve; keep a bucket there and open the valve to see if water comes well. Next check the screens (filters) on the hose, clean well. This shd be done on both ends of the hose/s. Refit carefully. Check for leaks. If water still (don't forget to open the valve!) does not enter machine change the inlet valve of your wash machine. Can be done yourself. Rate me pl...........if helped.
