Re: Video not recording

Turns out many Canon camera's (both still and video) have an issue with the connection to the CCD. If it is related to this connection, Canon will fix it for free. I have shipped my camera to them and I'm awaiting confirmation that it is related. Details can be found at the following link on the Canon USA website.

So far, their customer service related to this issue has been outstanding... I hope they continue with such great service...

Re: Video not recording

The solution is typically simple as it has happened to me multiple times. It is almost always the tape cassette. If you just put a new one in the camera or even an old one or partially used one in or out and back in and the camera doesn't work you have found your problem. Try unloading and reloading a few times and make sure the camera itself does all of the loading and locking in of the tape and it will work perfectly. I continue to have this problem but if I load and unload enogh times it eventually works.
Also make sure your battery isn't too low for some reason when mine gets really low it will run the audio but not the vidio so as soon as I plug it in the vidio woll begin to work again.

Re: Video not recording

It could be something as simple as the head needs cleaning. Purchase a DV head cleaner from your favorite retailer and see if it clears up. Dirty heads are usually the cause of horizontal banding in recordings. Distortion is another indicator of the unit needing a good cleaning.

Is this audio or video distortion ? Either way, a good starting point is to clean the recording heads inside the camcorder, using a cleaning cassette.

Would like to record in 16:9 ratio but am not sure of the results? goof or bad?

You may record in either wide-screen or normal mode. If you record in wide-screen mode, the video will appear compressed when played back on a normal TV. For full details refer to the "Using the wide mode" section of the manual on page 32 of the manual.

Distorted Image

if it records the distortion then i suspect the guides are out of adjustment or your capstand roller is pushing the tape to high on the guides. need to have a profession serviced.

LCD won't project

You may have a problem with the image sensor device (CCD). From October 3, 2005 through October 2, 2007, Sony will repair, free of charge, affected products exhibiting the above-mentioned problem where it is caused by the image sensor device. Sony will also cover the cost of shipping and handling from and to addresses within the United States and US Territories for service to correct this issue. To see if you have this problem: Power On your camcorder (make sure the battery is fully charged). Check the LCD screen and verify that the display icons are turned on. If you cannot see the icons, press the Display button until the icons are visible. Put a tape in the camcorder. With the lens cap off, record some video. NOTE: Be sure to speak during the recording so the video will contain your voice. Rewind this section of the tape (using tape counter to verify start of your recording). Play back the recorded video and use the LCD screen on the camcorder to view it. You should hear the audio you recorded and the Display icons/text will still appear. If your camcorder is affected by this CCD issue, the picture will either be extremely distorted, or there will be no visible picture (just a blank LCD screen with the display icons still visible).
