No polarity unless the wire terminals are different sizes. Then they go on the corresponding terminal.

The dryer shuts off, keep getting an E1 code, what needs to be done

It sounds like this is a Whirlpool Duet or a Kenmore Elite Dryer due to the error code E1 being available only on this models. The problem here is an open thermistor as what error code E1 means. It's either the thermistor is exhibits an extremely high resistance or the wire harness connecting it to the control board is broken or cut open. Click on the link below for the detailed procedure in accessing the thermistor.

Whirlpool Duet and Kenmore Elite Electric Dryers Not Starting

Measure the resistance of the thermistor and refer the table below. Normal thermistor resistance is around 10000 ohms (10K) at room temperature.

Replace the thermistor if the resistance is significantly higher (or lower) than what it is supposed to be based on the resistance table above. Check the wire harness connecting it to the control board, if the resistance turns out good, and make sure the connectors are good and the wires are intact. Replace the wire harness if necessary. Consider replacing the control board if both the thermistor and the wire harness turn out good. The link below might enlighten you further on the troubleshooting of the thermistor.

Dryer not working. failure code E2

The electronic control board detected that the thermistor located on the blower housing is shorted (zero resistance). Either the wire harness connecting the thermistor and the electronic control board has a short circuit or the thermistor is indeed shorted. I get an E1 code on a whirlpool duet dryer. What could the problem be.

The problem is the control thermistor being detected open by the electronic control. It's either the wire harness connecting the thermistor and electronic control is broken or the connection is loose or the thermistor is indeed open. Measure the resistance of the thermistor then refer to the temperature and resistance table for the normal thermistor resistance values. Click on the link below for the detailed troubleshooting procedure.

I have a Whirlpool GEX9868JQ0 Electric dryer. Rvery time I use it ,it will stop within a few minutes and display E1. It takes me a long time to dry clothes, having to re start the dryer over and over. ...

The electronic control detected that the thermistor is open as indicated by the fault code E1. It's either the connection between the thermistor and the electronic control is broken or the thermistor is indeed open. Troubleshooting and repair is an easy task can be one in a couple of minutes. Make sure to unplug the dryer before attempting any repair work.

Remove the dryer's back panel to access and check the thermistor. Remove the screws securing the back panel then pull the panel off the cabinet and locate the thermistor on the blower housing.

Check to make sure the wires are snugly connected and there are no signs of bad contacts or corrosion. Disconnect the wires if there's no issue found with them and the connections then tape the wires together or jump a wire between them.

Put a few load of wet or damp clothing, plug the dryer in then start it. Error E2 should appear on the display to indicate that the thermistor has been shorted. It signifies that the electronic control and the wire harness are all good and the thermistor is indeed open. Replace the thermistor with part number 8577274.

Simply unscrew it from the blower housing, install the new one, and transfer the wires from the old to the new one. It actually doesn't matter to which terminal the wires should go since the thermistor is not polarized.

Feel free to update us about the development of the troubleshooting and repair should you have further questions.

Note: This advice is outlined for the purpose of troubleshooting without the use of a volt-ohmmeter. Simply check the resistance of the thermistor if a volt-ohmmeter is available. Refer to the table below for the correct resistance reading.

E1 whirlpool duet electronic gas dryer error keeps coming on. dryer shuts off after a few minutes

The fault code means the electronic control detected the thermistor is open. It's either the wire harness connecting the thermistor and electronic control is broken or the connection is loose or the thermistor is indeed open. Measure the resistance of the thermistor then refer to the temperature and resistance table below for the normal thermistor resistance values. Replace the thermistor if the measured resistance is not in the table.

Check the continuity of the wire harness if the thermistor resistance is good and make sure the connectors are fully inserted. Replace the harness if it is broken (no continuity). The problem lies in the electronic control board if no issue is found in the harness and the connections.

The thermistor is located on the blower housing and can be accessed through the toe panel. Shut off the gas supply and disconnect electrical power to the dryer. Remove the two hex-head screws from the bottom flange of the toe panel then pull the panel down and off the cabinet.

Remove the hex-head screw from the lint duct bracket and remove the bracket. Remove the two hex-head screws from the lint duct and remove the duct.

Remove the wires from the terminals of the thermistor when measuring its resistance. Remove the two-hex-head screws securing it to the blower housing when replacing it and install the new one. Reassemble in reverse order of the disassembly steps.
