SOURCE: Error Code: Lens Error 113,0,0,0

Lens errors are fairly common. Usually it's sand or grit interfering with the lens extension mechanism. Or the camera's been dropped with the lens extended. Or the camera has been powered on, but the lens had been blocked preventing its extension.

Here's some things that you can do to try to correct it. They only seem to work for about 50% of lens errors, but they're worth a try:

SOURCE: lens error

ave you tried replacing the batteries with new, fully charged ones? when the battery is low the lens will just stay out because there isn't enough juice for it to retract, but you can still browse your photographs beacuse it uses less power.

SOURCE: problem with the lens

i had a canon for a few years and then it suddenly had the lens error message that wouldnt go away no matter what. i gave up and got a new one a few months ago and now i got sand in the new lens. instead of taking apart the new camera, i decided to dissect the old one and IT WORKS! i cant believe it. i removed all the screws and blew some air into the lens and it just worked. new one doesnt seem to come apart as easily, but at least i have something to use in the meantime.

There is an issue with the camera focus circuit in lens. That is why it is ok when you go into playback mode but negative when the lens is involved.

Camera lens won't shut

This has to be THE most common failure mode for a digital camera. Some common error messages that might show up on the LCD's of cameras with this problem include "E18 lens error" (older Canons), "ACCESS" error (Sony), "Zoom Error" (Fuji), "Lens Obstructed" (Kodak), "lens error, restart camera" or just "lens error" (nearly all camera makers lately use this variation). Some cameras might show nothing at all, but merely make a beeping noise as the lens goes out, then in, then the camera shuts off. Sometimes the lens won't even move.

When trying to turn the camera on, the lens will not extend fully. it extends partially, and then the camera turns itself off, leaving the lens in the partially extended position. you have to try and turn...

Unfortunately, many cameras that fall prey to lens error problems can only be corrected by professional repair. But, here are some last resort troubleshooting steps that you can try that may correct it. They only seem to work for less than 40% of the lens errors, but if the camera is out of warranty (or repair cost approaches that of the camera), they're worth that try.

The error is a lens motor error. The lens is not able to properly move and the camera then gives the error message. Sometimes dirt can be stuck in the lens or it could just be a mechanical problem that needs repairs. If you point the camera lens toward the ceiling while turning it on this could help alleviate the problem. If you cannot do anything to get the camera to stay on you may need to contact Olympus for repairs.

When I turn on my camera, it comes up with "Lens error". What does that mean?

HI. One possible reason for this error is the camera has been switched on and the lens unit is prevented from extending itself. The camera will struggle for a second to extend the lens, then report the problem as a "lens error". I would start by Inspecting the lens for any obvious obstruction, then turn the camera off, then back on again. Usually, simply switching the camera Off and On again will correct this problem. If that doesn't correct the error, Remove and recharge and/or replace the battery. If the error does not clear up right away, leave the battery out of the camera overnight, and try again the next day. You are basically forcing the cameras micro board and chip sector into a reset mode when preforming this procedure.

  • NOTE_ If none of the procedures above produce positive results, I'm afraid that this unit will need to be sent to the manufacture for a serious repair detail, due to mechanical lens failure. There are no user serviceable parts on these units

First a black screen, then a lens error

For the lens error:

For the black pictures (after you've corrected the lens error):

Note, if you're going to try fix 5a on the above blog page, do it with the camera turned off to lessen the chance of damaging the lens.
