I would take you laptop to a local store/repair shop and ask them if you can try the PCMCIA NIC in your system to make sure that there is not something else wrong. They should do this either free of for a nominal cost. This way you can check to make sure your system recognizes the NIC card and also that the correct driver is loaded.

How do i fix it

The control board(s) are fried. Cost of parts, assuming they're even available, is likely to be very high. Not a DIY project.

Call your home insurance company. You should have at least some protection for lightning strikes - but there could be disclaimers regarding electronics unless you purchased a rider.

When i connect the lan wire my mother board shows lan not connected why/

Either the cable is defective (it has a break inside it so try another one) or the onboard LAN chip was fried by the power surge generated by a lightning strike that came in your vicinity.
That is unfixable, disable the onboard one from the BIOS and install a simple PCI LAN card in its place.

We had a lightening strike and since then, I have not been able to "talk" to our office network. Is that a faulty NIC card and what can I do to fix it?

Yes, most likely the onboard LAN card has been fried by the lightning. Disable it from Control Panel - Network Connections then uninstall its driver from Programs. Then buy and install one of these

There is a high probability that your laptop has been fried, especially if it was plugged into the mains at the time of the lightning strike.
A lightning strike could damage many components and even if you could get it fixed (most likely require a motherboard replacement) there are no guarentees that some other component won't fail in the future.
If it was me, I would put my money towards a new laptop and get a surge/lightning protection power board and disconnect the laptop from the main during a lightning storm.

In a nutshell, yes and not only to a Dell but to most computer brands/models. In some instances, it's only the modem, router, LAN card that gets fried while some gets everything toasted.

Incidentally, even a near lightning strike is enough to cause big problems.

Kind regards.
