Question about DE-1730 Radar Detector
Mine was doing this as well. I replaced the power cord with a new one that had a plug that fit tighter in the hole in the side of the Whistler. I think that hole in the main unit gets sloppy ( actually the contacts in the hole ) Take it apart and bend in the contacts or try a SLIGHTLY larger plug.

Could be a bad power cord. Does the unit act the same in a different vehicle?
