Question about Riccar Vacuums
How do you replace the brush roll strips on a Riccar/Simplicity metal brush roll?
I have removed the clutch assembly and the shaft from the metal roller. There's a metal cap remaining on one end - on the other end, where the clutch assembly goes, there's a plastic cap. There's a bearing in each end.
The old strips need to slide out and the new ones slide in, but the caps remaining on the roller won't allow the strips to come out.
The caps will come out of the end of the metal roller. They can be difficult if it's been a long time as dirt and grime can build up. Try sticking a flat head screwdriver in and gently twisting to get the caps to slide out.

Most likely the brush motor is bad and not turning, part #2036757, would sell for around $23. To get to it, start taking out screws on the top cover, that motor is under the that top access cover.

Probably should just go to a repair shop and they should be able to order one for you, that is if they are available by themselfs. Or if you have a store where you live that sells vacuum parts, you could go there.

When you had the brush roll off, did the ends turn freely? If not then the brush won't turn and the belt will just slip. You would have to replace the brush roll if either of the ends are frozen. Other then that you would have to remove the top cover to see if there any broken parts, there is a spring loaded asm, it has a black wheel that will push the V belt when it is in the carpet setting and the handle is in the down position, it could be jammed so the roller is stuck.

On the belt end, there is a clip #59 to remove then you can take the brush roll apart, replace the brush strips and put it back together.

Take a flat head screw driver and pry the end cap off. It will come off. You might have some string or hair around it causing it to not turn.
