Have you plugged in an external monitor to see if there is any output on the screen? You could have a LCD problem or the motherboard is shot. I would also remove the RAM from the machine to see if it gives you any beep codes. This will tell you if your computer is going through POST. If your computer gives you beep codes then theres a good chance your motherboard is still ok.

    Is it possible that the system is mistaking a CD-ROM I forgot inside my laptop as a boot device?
    Im a average user and dont really know a lot about the BIOS and hardware. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Dell vostro 1510 boot problem

Hi. If you don't have any important files in your hard drive, you can recover your computer to factory image
by restarting your computer and keep tapping F8 when you see the Dell screen to go to windows advanced Option.

Select repair your computer, press enter and click next. enter your administrator password and choose Image restore.

Vostro 1510 - not to check bios is working or not


Most repair shops have simple device they can connect to the power supply to insure that it is providing the correct voltages to the mother board. After that, substitue the memory, the battery and the CPU. Anything now will require a fast scope and alot of electronics knowledge. Check my website

Dvd laptop have problem, dont read cd and dvd model: dell vostro 1510

check whether you are able to boot fom operating system cd/dvd,
if you are able to boot fom OS cd/dvd, there is no hardware issue,
if unable to boot = Replace optical drive

then software troubleshooting
Install firmware upgrade for optical drive fom
reinstall Operating system.
