Try to use the OS Disk first, you will want to put it in the cd rom and restart the computer, if it doesn't take from that one then the one you will want to use to reinstall is the Recovery Disc 1, then
part way through the restore it will ask you to insert disc 2.
Most of the time it is the recovery disc that will bring it back to factory settings and install it fresh.
It will definitely be one of the two, I've never seen a computer that came with the OS disc AND a recovery disc set, try the OS then the recovery.

I suggest you pull out your Instal disk that came with your computer, put it in the drive and press whichever Function key for boot menu, change it to CD as the boot drive and it should allow you to erase the hard drive and reinstall all the software. If it did not come with a disk or you dont have it you will have to call HP or order a new disk online. Step by step is hard if we do not know what OS you are running.
