Question about Office Equipment & Supplies

8 Answers

How do I get the message: "The Ink absorber is almost full. Contact the service center" Which I did, and they gave me a service center. Too far away. So I googled some more, and then called Canon Technical Parts to get a new Ink Absorber and they said there is not an Ink Absorber in this model, so it cannot be repaired. I imagine there is a counter someplace, but wanted your expertise before I call technical support back. The manual says - for a Mac (I have a PC) - same printer - to get a replacement part. This is unnerving.

In response to Jeep brainy. I am having problems.

I went through step 3. When I released the power and resume/cancel button, the power alternatively turns green, and the resume/cancel button blinks orange (6,7 or 8 times). This has been going for about fifteen minutes. I cannot get to step 4.

Also you state, after the function (menu) is selected, press the Power button. I don't have a function(menu) or if I do, I don't know where it is located.

    Please help some more.

    Thanks.

I am now asked to either accept or reject solution, but I have not had a reply back to my reply to jeep brainy. I don't understand what is happening.

  • donna406 Jul 16, 2009

Where do I find my reply to Jeep brainy?

  • donna406 Jul 17, 2009

The exact model is a Canon PixmaiP1700, Model serial number is HCFA79300.

    I'm using Windows XP.

I followed your 2nd procedure and for #4, I pressed the reset button 4 times.

I still get the same message when I try to print.

    Any other ideas?

  • donna406 Jul 17, 2009

I have tried all of your procedures and none have worked - including the downloading of the file and running General Tools.exe

Is it that this can not be reset?

In one you said the ink absorber is on the right and it collects ink everytime the printer is used. I original said that Canon parts said there wasn't an ink absorber on this model. I could not find any ink absorber or any ink. I had cleaned out some ink previously.

    I'm really exasperated.

Am closing down for the night. I would appreciate any other suggestions you have.

    Thanks.

    Thank you for your pictures.

Without words it is very hard for me to get my printer to look like your pictures. I don't know how to open the bottom, and if I do then do I just mop up the ink? Mine doesn't seem to look like this and in the manual I don't find this.

    I have a pixma iP1700

    Please advise.

  • donna406 Jul 26, 2009

Sorry for the delay, we have been out of town.

    This didn't work.

    I have a Pixma iP1700

Do you have another solution? Thanks.

  • donna406 Aug 03, 2009

None of the suggestions above have worked. I have a Canon Pixma iP1700. Is there a solution to 'The ink absorber being almost filled'? I was told that there is not an ink absorber in this model, so don't understand all these possible ways to correct it. There must be a counter that needs to be reset.

    Can anyone help?

  • donna406 Aug 03, 2009

I have commented elsewhere, but maybe this is the place to respond.
I have received several possible solutions - None have worked. I have a Canon Pixma iP1700 printer. I have the message 'The Ink Absorber is almost full." I have been told by Canon that there is no replacement part as this model doesn't have an ink absorber. No solution.
Please let me know if there is no solution to reset the counter or what.
Please note the model number I have.
    Thanks.

  • donna406 Aug 17, 2009

I am replying to post from firesnake09. I don't understand why this is not under his message. Anyway, if you look at all the comments the Model number is Canon PIXMA iP1700. It has already been determined that there isn't a ink absorber in this model and that the counter needs to be reset, but all the instructions to reset the counter do not work.

When it gives me the message to 'cancel print' after it has printed, I just click OK and that way my printing continues. I have no idea how long this will work. I have talked to Canon and they have said there is nothing that can be done because there is no ink absorber in this model. I hope this gets to the right person.

  • donna406 Aug 17, 2009

This is a reply to Jeep Brainy. I have tried to contact the service people in Sacramento, CA that Canon referred me to and I have no answer. Guess I will try calling Canon again. Thanks for all your help. It appears I have too many comments and haven't been consisting checking them. Hope you get this message.

  • donna406 Aug 17, 2009

This is a reply to Jeep Brainy.

I did call Canon, and the response was there is no way to fix this, there is no replacement part and there is a pad of some sort in there which is absorbing ink which I can not get to without taking printer completely apart. I have been printing using the Canon since I first started this in July 2009 and I just do a reset and it has been printing just fine. I give up. I really appreciate all your help - but other than taking it completely apart and finding and cleaning the pad I don't see a solution. With an Epson printer costing $39 at Office Depot, I will take that.

FixYa has certainly been helpful - with possible solutions although most Gurus haven't answered my questions, except you.

So thanks - I will accept your solution.

    Donna

  • donna406 Aug 17, 2009

As I explained in my comment - there is no solution to this problem other than finding someone to take it apart - probably for a cost of over $100 and I can get several printers for that.
Jeep Brainy was for helpful whereas some of your other Gurus didn't bother to reply to my comments.
    Thanks for all your help.

Hi,

I am not sure if you still have the same problem. But i can tell you the solution if you want to get if fixed :-

The ink absorber is at the bottom right of the printer.
Everytime you print something is used to clean the printing heads.

You can clean it using kitchen towel to dab out as much ink as you can from the tank.

Once done you need to reset the error. For that you need to follow this steps (both to make permanent).

Step 1)

1. Turn Off the printer, and then take off the cable power.
2. Push and hold the power button (use your fore finger to hold the power button).
3. Connect again the power cable.
4. Use your middle finger to push the resume button 2 times.
5. Release the power button.
6. Finish. you have finised the first step to reset Ink Tank Full Error (Blink Error).

Step 2)

Download the reset software from:
http://www.startcopy.ru/repair/files/ip1700_1300.rar

1. Run GeneralTool.exe
2. At USB Port choose your printer port.
3. Click Lock Release
4. Check EEPROM CLEAR
5. Put in blank paper for printing. And then click Test Pattern 1 button
6. It’s All Done. Your Printer IP1700 back normal again.

NOTE:

After this your PC will detect it as a new printer. So you willneed to go to the printer folder and make this new printer the defaultone and delete the older.

Hope i helped you.

Thanks for using ' Fixya ' and have a nice day!!

DO ACCEPT THE SOLUTION IF 100% SATISFIED.

The Ink Absorber is also called an Ink Waste Pad that absorbs all excess ink during print and print head cleaning. I think there is no replacement part for this since manufacturers computed the life span of your printer and it assumes that this errors will occur at the end-of-life of your printer.

but if your printer survived after a long period of time, you might have this error message displayed. so the ONLY way to resolve this is to disassemble your printer and manually remove and wash the waste pad. let it dry and place it back and re-assemble the printer unit.

Can you provide me the brand and the exact model number of your printer? The information that you would provide would help me to further assist you.

Some printers are giving out this error message even though the Ink Absorber is new. Those printers needs to be sent out to the manufacturer for repair.

Please get back to me ASAP.

Hi there

I'm afraid it sounds like the printer will require servicing.

I can confirm that all inkjet printers such as yours do have an ink absorption pad, but it is true the replacement may not be available.

Your best bet would be to have the printer sent in to a local printer repair store for servicing. Do ask them for a quote first, and some stores charge the price of a new printer!

I hope this helps to conclude.

Best wishes

The counter is built into the main board itself. I would try these reset procedures first to try and clear the counter.
Reset Printer Canon Pixma iP1700/iP1300 Waste Ink Counter
Turn off printer
Hold down Resume button and press Power button.
Keep holding down Power button and let Resume button go.
Press Resume button 2 times then let BOTH buttons go.
Green lights will flash and then stop blinking.
When green lights are solid, press the Resume button 4 times.
Press the Power button

One of these reset procedures should work on resetting the printer. If this does not work please let me know. I will also contact canon regarding this issue Monday morning to see if they have the exact reset procedures. I would not invest any more money into repairs or such because you can purchase this exact printer for as little as 35$ brand new from ebay. If you have any other questions please let me know.
Thank you,
Lee

(Each time the Resume/Cancel button is pressed, the LED lights alternately in either orange or green, starting with orange.)

During initialization, the LED blinks in green.

    Hi Donna,

Thanks for giving me the model number. I will ask you again to do a new procedure. here is how:

The ink absorber is to the right of the printer. It collects ink everytime the printer is used to clean the printing heads on the ink cartridges. So, get some kitchen towel and dab out as much of the ink as possible, then do this.

Procedure to Reset Ink Tank Full Error for Canon IP1700

    1. Turn Off the printer, and then take off the cable power.
    2. Push and hold the power button (use your fore finger to hold the power button).
    3. Connect again the power cable.
    4. Use your middle finger to push the resume button 2 times.
    5. Release the power button.
    6. Finish. you have finished the fstep to reset Ink Tank Full Error (Blink Error).

Thanks for the patience. I hope it work this time. Oh and take note: This will tell your PC you have a new printer, so you will have to go to the printers folder and set this 'new' printer as the default, otherwise it won't print.

    Kind regards.

    Hi Donna,

After some more research, it appears that your printer doesn't indeed have an ink absorbtion pad though it still have the counter settings in which when reached it will tell that the ink absorber is full (though not present). Since you've already done all the possible solution to reset the counter and didn't work, may I suggest to bring your printer to the nearest service center. They might have other way to fix it. Thanks and goodluck!

Canon Printer Pixma MX700 All-In-One/ Alert message received. Ink absorber almost full. Contact service. How to get to? Have to replace?

Ink Absorber Full
This may clear the ink absorber problem. There is ink absorbers located at both ends of the printer where the ink head move.
To dry the ink absorber, power up the printer and open the cover so the ink cartridges and print head will move to the middle of the printer.
Then take several sheets of absorbent tissue, fold it into a pad and place it inside the printer over the ink absorber on the far left hand side of the printer to soak up the excess ink. You may need to change the absorbent tissue a few times. Then repeat the same procedure on the right hand ink absorber.
Close the lid and the printer should now function normally.

"ink absorber is almost full, contact service center" - what does this mean?

Inkjet printer has waste ink absorber inside, sponge alike. The function of waste ink absorber is to localize and keep waste ink safe inside the printer and does not harm the electrical parts.
Waste ink is produced from print head cleaning process and borderless printing. When capacity of the ink absorber raise to about 90% then warning message appears.
You need to bring your printer to the nearest service center to get waste ink absorber replaced.

Its appear " The ink absorber is full. Contact the service center."

Inkjet printers have a fibrous pad inside them that collects the waste ink from cleaning the print head. Over time, this pad fills up with ink and can no longer hold any more. When this occurs, the printer indicates a "waste ink full" error.

Replacing the waste ink absorption pads is something an authorized canon service facility can take care of for you.

The ink absorber is full and printer won't print.

Normally when you get the "ink absorber is full" message, you would take machine to a Canon service center. They will either clean the ink absorbers or more than likely they will replace the ink absorbers. After replacement, the ink absorber full message will have to be reset which is done in the service mode.
