I inadvertantly removed the functional software installed for this device. The icon is no longer displayed when I open "My Computer". Since I do not have a functional CD DVD Rom device am unable to recover the functiona without a CD Rom Driver. It appears I will need a download from Asus. Incidental Problem that occurred last May. The Icon was displayed but the device was inop. I also had a USB CD DVD Rom installed. Both units were inop. Advice I was given was to delete the Register Upper and Lower filters. This restored the functions but caused problems with my adobe software. Please advise if this was the right corective action!!!

Try taking out the cd-rom out of the system and then hook it back up. Go into your BIOS and see if its being recognized in there, if it is then let it boot back up into windows and see if the device is okay. If its sitll not then try another known working device in there and see if the cd-rom works now. If it does then you know the original cd-rom was bad. If it still doesn't then it could be the motherboard controller that the cd-rom hooks up to is bad.

in the BIOS, If the cd-rom doesn't show up or if it shows weird symbols then try another cd-rom and if you get the same symptoms then the motherbard is bad.

On what basis system drivers are compatible ?

Device drivers are needed to communicate with a hardware device within a computer. A computer program, such as the operating system, sends an instruction to an device driver, which then tells the hardware device what to do. Operating systems typically contain drivers for all types of hardware devices, but they are mostly generic. Finding the drivers that are needed by a computer can be done by finding the type of hardware being used and updating or installing software.

Go into the computer's BIOS to view installed hardware. When starting the computer, press the F2 key or Delete to enter the BIOS. The BIOS will display the type of hard drive as well as the type of CD/DVD drive that is installed in the system. Look in the Device Manager within Windows to see the hardware devices that are installed. Double-click on the "System" icon within the Control Panel and then go to the "Hardware" tab. Click on the "Device Manager" button to see a list of devices that are installed and used by the operating system. Check Windows Update for available updates to on-board hardware devices. Hardware components, such as a video controller and audio controller, can have an updated driver that can be downloaded and installed from Windows Update. Use the installation CD that came with the hardware device. The setup program will install the software and drivers that are needed to use the device. Refer to the manual that came with the computer or hardware component. The manual will list the model number of the device as well as the website of the manufacturer. Visit the manufacturer's website for a hardware device that is installed on the system. Updated drivers to devices are available from a manufacturer to correct problems and to add additional functionality to a device. The site can also be used to find drivers for hardware if the manufacturer is no longer in business.

Hi,

While the HP software installs on a computer running Windows XP,usually during Windows device discovery (Plug and Play), the followingerror message displays on the computer: 'CannotInstall this Hardware. An error occurred during the installation of thedevice. The system cannot find the file specified.'

Solution:

Acorrupt Windows installer might cause this problem. Follow these stepsto remove any installed software, perform a System Restore to returnthe computer to the way it was before the product software wasinstalled, and then download and install the most recent version of theproduct software.Step one: Uninstall the All-in-One software

Even if the installation failed, some HPsoftware components might have installed on the computer. Follow thesesteps to use the Windows Add or Remove Programs tool to uninstall thesoftware.
  1. Disconnect the USB cable from the product.
  2. Click Start, and then click Control Panel.
  3. Click Add or Remove Programs. The Add or Remove Programs window opens.
  4. In the Currently installed programs list, select the following items if they are listed:
    • HP Officejet/Photosmart/PSC All-in-One software 9.0
    • HP Imaging device functions 9.0
    • HP Customer Participation program 9.0
    • HP Solution Center 9.0
    • HP Photosmart Essentials 9.0
If the list of installed HP programs contains any version numbers less than 9.0, select the following items if they are listed:
    • HP Officejet/Photosmart/PSC All-in-One software XX (where XX represents a version number less than 9.0)
    • HP Imaging device functions XX
    • HP Customer Participation program XX
  5. Click Change/Remove, and then follow the on-screen instructions to uninstall the software.
  6. Restart the computer when prompted to do so

Step two: Perform Windows System Restore

Windows System Restore is a Windows process that allows you to resetthe computer to a specific previous state, also known as a restorepoint. This process does not affect files on the computer. However, ifyou installed any software on the computer recently, you might have toreinstall the software after System Restore is complete.

  1. Click Start, click All Programs, click Accessories, click System Tools, and then click System Restore. The Windows System Restore program opens in a new window.
  2. Click Restore my computer to an earlier time, and then click Next. The Select a Restore Point dialog box opens.

If an installation restore point createdby the HP software installation displays in the list of restore points, select that restore point. If there are no installation restore pointsavailable, select a manual or system restore point that was createdbefore the HP product was installed. If no restore points are available, continue with "Step three: Download and reinstall the software".

  1. Click Next. The Confirm System Restore Point screen opens.
  2. Review the information on the Confirm System Restore Point screen, and then click Next. When the System Restore completes, the message Your computer has been successfully restored displays on the computer. Click OK, and then continue to the next step to reinstall the HP software.
Step three: Download and reinstall the software

The HP software CD that shipped with the product frequently does notcontain the most recent version of the software and drivers. To makesure that the software is the most recent version and that there are nocorrupt installers, download the software from the HP Web site.

  1. Turn the product on.
  2. Disconnect the USB cable from both the product and the computer (if you already connected it).
  3. Open a new window to browse to the Select Software and Drivers page:
    1. Right-click this link, Select Software and Drivers, and then click Open in New Window.
    2. If prompted, type your product number. You might also need to click it in a list of similar products.

  5. If the webcam is not listed in the Device Manager window, you should install the original webcam drivers.
If you need the drivers see below.
