What does err mean on carbon monoixide dectectors

Is it about 7 years old? The chemistry of the sensor is only good for 7 years, so by regulation they are required to have a timer that makes them die at 7 years, after which they are no longer accurate and could mislead you into a fatal CO poisoning. I presume you've already tried replacing the battery.

I have a kidde nighthawk*(combo smoke/co alarm). It beeps about every 20 seconds with or without a good battery installed.

Does the display read, "Err"? According to the Kidde web site, all of their detectors (CO anyway, not sure about smoke) manufactured since, I believe, 2002, have a built-in clock that AUTOMATICALLY and apparently irreversibly disables them ~7 years after they are first powered up, a nice little "planned obsolescence/End-of-Life", under-documented "feature" that forces you to buy a replacement. Try to find THAT warning on the OUTSIDE of the packaging. Or call their "Hotline" at 1-800-880-6788 and tell them how you feel about it. If yours was manufactured before 2002 it may have escaped the automatic shut-down fate, so it probably really IS malfunctioning. Don't take a chance, just replace it.

I have kiddle nighthawk detector and it has an error code on it

1) Does the display show "Err"? 2) When you press and hold the Peak Level button does the display change to "E09"? If so, then you have just been "had" by the grossly under-documented "planned obsolescence feature" called, rather matter-of-factly, "End of Life". This means that ~7 years after first being powered up, the unit will, BY DESIGN, cease to function, forcing you to buy a replacement. Would have been nice of them to include THAT warning on the OUTSIDE of the package. Call their "Hotline" at 1-800-880-6788 and tell them what you think of that policy. If it is still under warranty (5 or 7 years depending on date of manufacture) they should replace it. In any event, buy another one; if they replace your first one you will have twice the protection. Not a bad thing.

Detector shows 888 when first switched on then 0 then err with bleep

Showing 888 for a second is normal, it is a display test.
But Err means the unit is faulty or end of life (around 7 years), it can't be repaired so it should be disposed of and a new one bought.

I had 2 and they both did the ERR thing and stopped working within a week of each other and that was about 7 years.

I have a NIGHTHAWK CO2 DETTECTOR, it reads ERR & i dont know what it mean?

Should be a Carbon Monoxide detector (CO). The ERR display means the CO sensor is probably shot. Unlike most smoke detectors, CO monitors have a limited life span. Same thing happened to me and had to get a new one.

Error code keeps coming up on nighthawk carbon monoxide detector

An error code on a Carbon Monoxide Detector is a serious matter that should be looked at immediately. Your local fire department will be glad to help you with this issue.

If the error code keeps coming, it may mean that you have a defective unit. If the unit is new, you should be able to get a replacement where you boutht it. A unit that is more than 5 to 7 years old should be replaced, see manufacturer recommendations.

Browse my website for more information or for buying a replacement for a new Carbon Mononxide Detector.

Carbon monoxide detector err code

Detecotrs have a limited lifespan of 5-7 years. So sounds like you need new one (It's not worth to buy just a sensor). Take a look on amazon: Amazon com Carbon monoxide detector (watch out on reviews). I hope this was helpful. cheers
