Question about Computers & Internet

I have a Gateway 702Ge desktop. I have upgrade the ram to 4gb. I want to upgrade the video card for gaming purposes. Best Buy gave me a Pny XLR8 GE Force 9800 Gt Graphics card x16 PCi express. It will fit in the slot but the power cord it came with is a 2 prong. The directions for the power cord is for a 4 prong and 6 prong power cord. So I am confused. Does it need the power cord? Do you think the wrong items was back in the box? (It was sealed in shrink wrap.) Help

High-end graphics cards require more power from your system to process all the graphical goodness. The manufacturer probably has several different versions of the card and is using a standard manual for all different models (hence the different listing in the manual). I would tend to say that if it was in the manufacturer's retail packaging then everything that is required is in the box. Look at the card itself and see if that 2 prong power fits your model. If you're having no luck, bring the product back to Best Buy and get a replacement and let them know what happened.

Your video card doesn't need a power cord, it need a cable that runs from video card to monitor, there are several different types of these cables, however, if you have an SLI ready video card that maybe what some of the stuff they gave you including a cable for HDMI and i would look in the manual real quick to double check...

It may have been a return, and yes you most likely need the power. Take it back get a new one. Also you may need a new power supply for your computer because the new card power requirements may be too much for stock systems.

My cousin recently upgraded his PNY video card, so he gave me his old one. It's a VDCARD, 8800, GTS 640MB PCIE. When I try and install it in my TA760G M2+ (Biostar) motherboard it makes a loud, cringing...

This Graphics card needs a system with at least a 450Watt power supply. As your cousin upgraded to a newer card, we can therefore assume that this card works and the problem lies with your computer. The power supply being the most obvious. I recommend a Cooler Mater Extreme Power Plus 460W or greater.

try removing all the cards from the expansion slots and remove the ram sticks. disconnect the drive cables from the board but dont touch the cpu or power connectors. Now hit the button. If nothing changes, probable board fault. If it now boots up and starts beeping ( which it will when no ram sticks installed) shut it down and reinstall each drive connector, ram stick and card one at a time booting between each item. when the faulty item is connected, the board will stop booting and you can replace that item. Many things can also cause this. Bad connections to ram sticks and video cards, damaged usb port connections, failed cpu's, failed psu's etc.. You may still have to take the machine to a professional repairer to have the problem diagnosed.

PURCHASE THE PNY 4GB MEMORY CARD

I have the same problem with the card, my cannon camera, and my gateway laptop. From what I've learned in the past ten minutes, the card is SDHC and my devices are not. The card is not able to dumb down and I am returning it to Best Buy. The HC in SDHC is the issue from my best guess. Similar to you cannot play PS3 games on PS2. I hope this helps anyone else.
