I have a Kitchenaid ksrf26dt refrigerator. if you pull off the panel in the refrigerator to replace the light bulb there is a red adjustment *****, what is it for? It is hidden when the panel is on.

The adjustment procedure is the same and there are springs on the two adjustment bolts. Thereafter, things are very different on the K45.
No speed or torque can be caused by:
1. Bad brushes, or most likely
2. A bad resistor. There are three wires on the resistor. It should read 190 ohms (or there about) across the red and white wires and 95 ohms (or there about) across the black wire and either of the other two.
3. A bad field coil (stator).
4. A bad armature.

A replacement resistor, field core, and armature are extremely difficult to find.

The "beater height" may be set too high causing interference with the lock mechanism. Please see the following kitchenaid instructions on how to adjust beater height.

If nothing is working then it is your control switch. Pretty easy to replace and get. Cant remember the site name but if you put in your Kitchenaid model name and serial number it will pull up the site for replacement parts.

If it has suddenly got high speed all the time and the two adjustment screws at the top of the speed control board are not loose and have not been messed about with the most likely solution will be to replace the phase board. That's the little PCB just above the speed control board with the 6 wires coming out of it.

In the Artisan mixers the problem can be caused by two different parts. First the speed control plate. When you remove the end cover from the mixer the first thing you see is the speed control plate. There are 3 screws on this, two at the top, one on the bottom. Try adjusting the top two screws, to adjust, turn in the control plate adjusting the screws an equal amount.
Also check to see if the control plate spring is unhooked. Remove end cover, and check control plate spring. If unhooked, attach to bottom of the control plate and squeeze the spring end.

Last, if the control plate is properly adjusted, the control plate spring is hooked correctly and the wiring is correct you will need to replace the speed control phase board. With the line cord disconnected, pull the t-bar contacts to open and insert a piece of paper between them so they cannot close. Reapply power-the mixer should just run or buzz trying to run. If it operates at full speed, the phase control is defective and needs to be replaced.

I had your same issue with the speeds. I think you need to adjust the speed through the speed control panel.
Open the back spherical cover on the Kitchenaid KSM90, the area with one screw on the top. You should see the speed control panel, a black and gold square connected to wires. There should be three large silver screws - two on the top, left and right - and one on the bottom. If you turn the top two screws clock wise the machine slows down at lower speeds. When you adjust the bottom screw, the higher speeds are effected. This process is called "tuning" and you can find an online video how-to through sites like Youtube.
As for the squeaking, you maybe replace some of the grease inside of the machine. Food grade gear lube would do if you are up for the challenge, but kitchenaid also sells a grease for their stand mixers for a pricey $20. It isn't hard to put in new grease and clean out the old but requires a lot of disassembly.

There are 2 possibilities, the attachments are worn out where they go on the shaft, simply replacing them could fix it, the other is the shaft is worn out inside the planetary ( where it spins), if it moves allot, 1/8 " or more from side to side, the housing is probably worn, and the planetary needs to be replaced, easy job, don't know cost, a new mixer may be in order.
