We have 2009 Tiguan with yellow engine light.

You can buy an inexpensive OBD2 scanner off ebay that allows you to check and reset engine lights. You can get either USB ones that you plug into a laptop or you can get handheld ones. The usb ones start about $10 and the handheld about $40

It's very possible it could be leaking and need replacing.
$500 is too much to pay for this repair.
I would get a second opinion and another cost estimate.

Hello - I took my Jag xk8 in for some extended warranty work and they told me I needed a $486.00 50,000 mile service - I have been researching this to find out if it is real and what possibly can they do...

Beware. Many of these repair shops make most of there money by scamming people and doing this type of work when it is not necessary.Auto manufacturers design new vehicles to last a many times longer without any type of service.I do recommend getting a full service at around 100,000 miles.Timing belt, plugs ect.You should change your air filter every 30 to 35,000 miles.

Was told my hyundai sonata xg350 needs a new timing belt...what is the going price for this job done by expert mechanic. Also, how difficult of a job is this for a non expert w/experience in this area?

Timing belts are best left to the experts. You can expect to pay in area of $500 - $600 or more. It is common when belts break to bend a valve in the process, if this happens, expect to pay several hundred more.

I have a 626 mazda 1996 and the mechanic told me the catalyst is around 500 bucks is that true?

That is about right. A universal one would be cheaper. Ask them if they can weld in a universal converter.

I AM TOLD I NEED TO CHANGE THE TIMING BELT ON MY 2006 4X4 HYUNDAI SANTA FE BECAUSE I'M AT 62,000 MILES AND MY MAINT. BOOK STATES IT SHOULD BE CHANGED AT 50K. IS THIS COSTLY?

$400 to $500 dollars... and the replacement interval is not 50,000 miles.. it's 60,000 (by the way, the reason the belt should be replaced is the fact IT'S GOING TO BREAK.... no doubts!).
