Extra characters (zero's) show up when I type

When I hit the 9 button (not on the numeric key pad) it comes through as
"09". When I type How many for example it puts out ho0 many. When I hit a Zero it prints nothing.

I have the latest driver installed. What could the problem be?

I've had such great luck with Logitech products that I never thought it might be defective hardware. This piece of junk is going back. Just bought it yesterday.

    Thanks

It sound like the 0 key has a short somewhere, whats the chance of fluid been spilled on it?

The tops should just click off and you could see if there is any obvious foreign matter around the "0" besides that it would mean pull apart time if you have deleted old driver and reinstalled to be sure of no corruptions.

How old might be under logitec warranty still

How do I type accents on a laptop without a secondary numeric keypad?

In order to type accented characters, you'll need to know the ASCII code of that character. You can check that out in the character map. This can be accessed in the following way:
  • Click the Start button
  • Click All Programs
  • Clicking Accessories,
  • Click System Tools
  • Click Character Map.
Once you have the character map open, you can just highlight the character that you want, and the ASCII code will be displayed on the 'Character map' window.

In order to insert the character, go to the textbox where you need to insert it, hold down the 'Alt' key on the keyboard and type the number on the numeric keypad.

In case of a laptop, you'll need use the numbers on the numeric keypad. But there's no separate numeric keypad on a laptop, instead, the numbers are arranged on the same keys as the letters. They're separate from the numbers on the top line.

How to Configure your Linksys router with wireless security

Launch your Internet Explorer, Netscape or your Mozilla.

On the Address, Search or URL, type: http://192.168.1.1, then hit Enter/Return. A login screen will appear. Type admin for the password and leave the username blank or empty then hit “OK”.

Note: If it doesn’t take admin as the password you might have changed it when you have ran the RUN ME FIRST CD that came with the router so try other passwords.

If you cannot remember the password, I regret to tell you but, you have to reset the router and, reconfigure it again. Next time, remember the password to avoid unnecessary reset and reconfiguration.

To reset the router to factory default
1] Press and hold the reset button for 30 sec., after that
2] Unplug the power keep holding down the reset button for another 30 sec.
3] Then, plug back the power keep holding down the reset button for 30sec., after that
4] Release the reset button.

Note: Configuring WEP in the router varies depending on the model number and firmware version of your Linksys Router.

Cisco Interface (If your Setup page has a Cisco Logo)

Go to Wireless Tab > Wireless Security > Click the drop down arrow then select WEP:

Regular Linksys Router Interface (If your Setup page has a no Cisco Logo)

Under Setup > Click WEP Key Settings or Edit WEP Key Settings

Using passphrase 64bit
Encryption LEVEL 64bit > type a passphrase > click Generate > copy key1 on a piece of paper (10hex character). Then hit Apply or Save Settings.

For manual key entry of 64bit encryption:
Encryption LEVEL: 64bit > Under Key 1 type a 10 digit character from A-F and 0-9.
(e.g.: A0B3F58C9E, 0123456789, ABCDEFABCD). Then hit Apply or Save Settings.

Using passphrase 128bit
Encryption LEVEL128bit > type a passphrase > click Generate > copy key1 on a piece of paper (26hex character). Then hit Apply or Save Settings.

For manual key entry of 128bit encryption:

Encryption LEVEL: 128bit > Under Key 1 type a 26 digit character from A-F and 0-9.
(e.g.:0123456789ABCDEF9874561230, 012345678901234567890123456, ABCDEFABCDABCDEFABCDABCDEF).

Then hit Apply or Save Settings.

If you want better security for Vista computers, you may want to select WPA personal (WPA-PSK) under security > set the Algorithm to TKIP and type your personal security code (any code you want, any characters)

Then hit Apply or Save Settings.

On a HP pavilion dm4, How do I use the number lock, or basically I just want to add symbols in a word doc using alt 153 ( for example). It doesnt work... Help please

If you have a desktop or a keyboard with the numeric pad, you can enter characters (accented) with an ALT key combination. If on the other hand you have a laptop and no numeric key pad, there should be an Fn key sequence (maybe Fn+F10) that locks the keyboard on the overlaid numeric pad. Better still, display the characters table and pop it open whenever you need a special character.

We are trying to connect our wireless and are having problems first of all we do not know what wlan security setting to put in and then we have know idea what a wpa key is?

All the settings are in your router configuration. Whens etting up your router it will have a wireless setup section, in this section you set the security type;
WEP - (64bit or 128bit) - Wired Equivelant Privacy
WPA - (64bit or 128bit) - Wi-Fi Protected Access

WEP- 64 bit is 10 character numeric key and 128 bit is 20 digit numeric key (eg, 1234567890) WPA- 64 bit and 128bit are a passphrase comprised of anything numeric, symbols or letters (eg, 8taq*1%9)
You set your own WEP or WPA security keys and the best way to do so is to enter into your routers configuration. To do so do one of the following to find the gateway ip address;

Windows XP:
Click Start
Click Run
Type "cmd" without the qoutations and hit enter
A black screen will appear and in there type in "ipconfig" no quotations and hit enter
it will show up looking something like this:
Gateway IP........................192.168.1.1 (Example)
Write down the Gateway Ip Address
Open a browser from a computer connected hardwire into the router and type in that ip address into the browser bar and it will take you to the router configuration page.

Windows 7:
Click start
in the search field type "command" no quotations and hit enter
A black screen will appear and in there type in "ipconfig" no quotations and hit enter
it will show up looking something like this:
Gateway IP........................192.168.1.1 (Example)
Write down the Gateway Ip Address
Open a browser from a computer connected hardwire into the router and type in that ip address into the browser bar and it will take you to the router configuration page.Without knowing what kind of router you have though I cannot help any further as all router setup pages are different.

If you can give me more information on your router I can guide you to a page that will show you how to setup wireless on your specific router. I hope I have been helpful and feel free to comment for further information.

My function is stuck on, i cannot type on my keyboard unless i hold the function key down the whole time i am typing. is there such a fn key release function.

Normally, if you hold down the "Fn" key, you'll get whatever character or function is printed in blue on those keys. So holding down the "Fn" key, you now have a numeric keypad in the middle of your keyboard. Release "Fn" and things are back to normal.
Which is exactly the opposite of what the question is asking. The person asking needed to press the "Fn" keys to get the normal, white, characters for each key.
The "problem" is simply that there is a persistent toggle. If you press "Num Lk" (I've also seen it labeled "Pad Lk" for numeric Pad) it turns on the blue keys, and inverts the meaning of the "Fn" key - it's a way to use that embedded numeric keypad without having to hold down the "Fn" key the entire time.

numlk.jpg To fix it, just find and press the "Num Lk" or "Pad Lk" key again. (Note, sometimes these keys are themselves "Fn" keys, so you may, or may not, need to also hold down the "Fn" key to get the right function.) Often there is an indicator light associated with the setting.

Some keys register different characters. For example the O registers the number 6 when it is typed.

This should be a simple fix, look at your keyboard, you should have a function key and if you look at the number pads above the top row of letters there should be either a numerical symbol or a key pad, your keyb board is simply using several keys as an extended numerical keypad. If you look closely at the letters there are small numbers on them. To fix hold down function key and pressing the keypad button. You can also try pressing the number lock.

My keys on my gateway laptop is not working right

Your keyboard has a "Numeric Pad" on/off button, in order to compress a full-sized keyboard (with its separate numeric-pad, on the right) into the smaller size of the laptop keyboard.

Press that on/off button, to resume "normal" operation of those keyboard characters that are "multi-labelled".

Cannot get backslash (\) character to display

To get a backslash, you need to print the upper ascii character 92 (decimal). On most machines you can get upper ascii characters by holding down the Alt key and typing the decimal value on the numeric keypad. On the little IBM machine I'm typing this on, there is no numeric keypad, but if I switch on numlock (by doing shift-scroll-lock) the j-k-l keys become 1-2-3 etc. Now id I hold down Alt and type 92 (i.e.keys 9-k), this is what I get: \ Howzzat?.
