If the chain does not have a removable link you will need a special tool called a rivet extractor or chain tool. It fits on the chain and has a t shaped handle thay you screw in to force the rivet out of the chain. Do not force the rivet all the way out. It only has to go far enough for you to apply a twisting motion to disengage the links. THe rivet will be left protruding from the side plate. When you are done soaking your chain use a wire brush to remove a the rust . Use the chain tool again to force the rivet back through the opposit plate. It should look like the rest of the links when you are done.If that particular link is binding, bend the chain side to side gently until it frees up. When you are done apply a good chain oil to the chain link by link. Chainsaw chain oil works in a pinch. Crank the chain for a while on the bicycle and then let it sit for a bit to soak in. Carefully wipe the excess off and you are done. Spray lubes are alright for a quick lube but don't last especially in wet conditions (rain, puddles etc.) If your chain jumps while you are pedalling after this, you will need a new chain. Hope this helps.

Old bike. everything is rusted and the back brakes don't link/work. what's the best way to deal with the rust and at least get the parts moving?

Spray WD40 or other penetrating oil on all moving parts. If you get a syringe from a pharmacy you can put oil into it an squirt it down the shifter and brake cable sleeves. If any moving parts are still stiff, leave the bike for a day to allow the oil to soak and penetrate. Try not to get any oil on the brake pads or rims.

What kind of chain/size do i need for 1997 honda vf750c magna motorcycle

The original factory chain is a 525 chain. It can still be found in some shops. I however would recommend replacing with a 530 o-ring chain & sprocket set. I made the same change over last summer. Not only a stronger chain you will have more shopping options $.

I left my 26' monogoose mountian bike outside. I had a cover over it and the chain has sum rust like and when I ride it, it skips. Which is dangerous to ride is there any way I can fix it myself.

Squirt some WD40 or good lubricant on it. Then take the chain and move each link so that they move freely. You probably have a stiff link or two. I have 40+ years of owning a bicycle business and do know what I am talking about. If, that does not work, you need a new chain. You will have to have a chain tool to install it. They are not expensive, but necessary. There is no master link on a multi speed bike, hence the chain tool which moves the pin to connect it. Use your old chain to get the right length. If, you have more questions you may email me at mvd011244@msn.com I am more than happy to answer your questions.

How do I find a masterlink on a rusted chain?

It is not very hard to see a master link there is usually an elongated e-clip on the master portion. If it is really that hard to see than oil the hole chain or spray it with WD-40 to see better.

1997 Honda Magna VF45c 750 clutch adjustment

Did you do an oil change recently? Sometimes a motor cycles clutch shares the oil with the engine and a different kind of oil then the bike requires will cause the clutch to slip. This happens alot especially if someone switches to some types of synthetic oil when the bike had regular oil before the oil change.

I want to resurrect my old bicycle (haven't ridden it for 10 years) and have found it in the shed. The chain is rusty and the tyres flat. Can I do anything about the rusty chain without having to replace...

1. buy a steel brush then brush out as much rust as you can from the chain.
2. soak the chain to used motor oil for at least 30 min.
3. then try brushing out more of the rust then apply "singer" all purpose oil to it...enjoy!!!
