Re: I need a driver for a digital video recorder camera....

Sony's website says: "Some digital camcorders must be setup to output a signal through the i.LINK® port prior to being connected to a computer. Consult the instruction manual of your camcorder for specific information before continuing with the steps in this solution. Instruction manuals are available in the Manuals/Specs/Warranty section of the Sony® eSupport Web site.

  1. Ensure the i.LINK cable is connected securely to the camcorder and computer.
  2. Ensure the camcorder is turned on and being powered by the supplied AC power adapter.
  3. Ensure the video capture card and software are configured properly to receive the i.LINK signal from the camcorder.
  4. NOTES:
    • Depending on the video capture card and software you are using, you may need to manually configure the capture card and software to receive a signal from the i.LINK port. If applicable, check the Help files of the software or contact the video capture card or software manufacturer for further information.
    • Sony® digital camcorders are not provided with and do not require special device drivers for i.LINK connectivity. The device drivers that allow i.LINK connectivity should be provided with the video capture software. If the software you are using does not appear to have the required drivers, you will need to contact the software manufacturer.
Likely this is the case where the camcorder needs to be setup in order to connect to the Firewire port. This is done inside the menus. Windows XP and Windows Vista will detect a camcorder connected to a Firewire port automatically. Make sure your camcorder is powered up and configured before connecting it. Does your PC have a Firewire port? Many do not, PCI cards with firewire ports can be bought online or from local retailers. Some sound cards come equipped with one.

My DCR-TRV10 digital cam won't accept a tape. It closes fine with no tape inserted but will not close with a tape in.

This is usually caused by a defective component in the tape detection circuitry and can be repaired fairly inexpensively. However, it’s not a user serviceable problem and will need to be repaired qualified service technician.

The record button does not stay on. you have to hold it down to record.

this may not be a hardware problem a wrong setting issue. on the panel where the lcd goes to, when you close it,just below all the buttons, there is a slide switch for start/stop mode. make sure you set it all the way to the left for the icon of a button with a u-turn arrow. that's the setting you may need to have it on for you to record or stop with a press of a button.hope this helps.thanks:)
