The manual should contain that, but yes if you have a HDMI port on your PS3 you can conect a HDMI monitor to it

I had ps3 hooked up to 720p tv then hooked it up to 1080p moniter now it won't show a picture on 720p tv

you have to switch it back to 720p mode before disconnecting it from the 1080p television. If you're using HDMI, and then switching back to the a/v connectors, then you have to switch the output settings of the ps3 from hdmi to a/v as well.

depending on the tv input configuration and what your signle source is it would go like this:

My video sound cords make a noise when plugged in. Also there is a line traveling up and down when the AV cords are in.

get new cords
prefferably hdmi
or if possible you could maybe even get the fail safe s-video cables
as long as your tv/moniter is compatible with it

Its not showing picture its blank

hi
play station 3 is equipped with 550mhz nvidia/sceirsx graphics.so may be due to lack of display capacity of your moniter/tv. Or may be due to the loose connections of cord to the tv or from the play station .

I need to know how to run my ps3 thru the optical wire to my hdtv

Before you start ensure that you read the TV instruction manual to know which resolution supports it. Do not switch on the TV and your console

You can connect your Playstation 3 to your TV in three different methods:

  1. Connecting with an AV cable
  2. Connecting with an HDMI cable
  3. Connecting with an Optical Cable

Connecting with an AV Cable:

  1. You are supplied with a Composite AV cable which would typically look like the below image
  2. Connect the AV Multi Out Connector to the socket on the back of your PS3 Console.
  3. Match the colors of the Jacks with the connectors on the TV which says "Video in".

Connecting with an HDMI Cable:

HDMI cable is not supplied with the PS3. You need to purchase it seperately. This cable would enhance the audio-video quality of your TV.

  1. Just connect one end of the connector to the HDMI OUT connector socket on the back of the console
  2. Connect the other end to the socket on the back of your TV which says HDMI IN.

Connecting with an Optical cable:

You need to purchase an Optical cable if you wish to connect your PS3 console through a digital audio device (Home theater, AV receiver etc.,). You need to connect Video ouput seperately with a help of Video output cable (HDMI, AV Cable etc.,)

  1. Connect one end of the optical cable to "Audio Out" socket on the console
  2. Connect the other end to the audio receiver.

Note: You can also connect your console to the Internet to use the Playstation 3 internet capabilities. Here's how you do it:

The Playstation 3 only supports 10BASE-T, 100BASE-TX and 1000BASE-T type networks. It needs a High speed internet connection. Do not connect it to a standard telephone connection or cables that are not supported. It might cause a malfunction or damage to the system.

Is your PS3 in a corner or something? Because mine was and my PS3 didn't have any picture either til I moved it into an open area where the vents could breath and never had the problem again.

Connect Playstation 2 to computer monitor

try going to your local radioshack and asking for a cable to do it. Tell them it needs to be "double male" infering that the piece sticks into another part instead of bieng stuck into. Then tell them one end needs to be "RCA cables" (the red white and yellow ones) and the other end needs to be a computer moniter cable. There are several types of moniter cables you can use, look in the back of your moniter to see what you have. There should be writing that says any 1 of the following "s video in", "dv in" "video in" etc. ask the radioshack man to get the non RCA side of the cable to have one of these on it. If you need to, it helps to take a picture of the back of the moniter where all the input plugs are, and show it to the radio shack man, he can probably help decide which cable to use. Once you buy the cable, plug the red yellow and white side into the red yellow and white holes respectively on the PS2, and the moniter cable into the moniter. Turn on the moniter and the PS2 and... Voila. PS You may need to take out the cable connecting the moniter to the PC to put in the new radioshck cable. I hope this works for you-BCA
