Just installed a Kenwood KDC-220U in my RV trailer. There is only one "hot" wire to attach the red & yellow wires to. Is that O.K.? Also, The power "surges" when in the CD function. On-Off On-Off. It seems to get warm. Is that normal? Probably a silly question, but I'm use to the old radio/cd or cassette. :-)

SOURCE: I was given a Kenwood KDC-1011S. All wires labled

Yellow is for constant 12v. (Power directly from battery) so it maintains preset stations and clock memory. Red is for Key "on" 12v Power (turns on when ignition key is on) Black is for Chasis Ground. What type of vehicle is it going in? I can get you the corresponding vehicle color as well. Post a comment with make/model & year vehicle. Hope this helps.

SOURCE: Wiring for a kenwood kdc 1020 cd player

if you have the wire connector it's easy.....give the negative conection to the body of the player..find the wire from the battery with has the power supply even when the switch is off..and connect it to the yellow wire.that is for the memory...find the wire which has the power when the switch is on ,and connect it to the red wire from the player....what i mean by switch is the ignition switch... u can easily find the speaker connections...most speaker wires comes as blue,ash,green,white...there are two wires from each colour......

SOURCE: New KDC-135 has Power but Faceplate won't light up

you shold always twist the end of the wiring together and tape them never use connectors, remove the connectors and twist the wires driectly to each other and tape them wiht electrical tape, the connectors almost always can not deliver the proper voltage..

Did you make sure you have the yellow to a constant connect wire and the red to a turn on?if not this can cause the radio not to work......

you can test wich is wich by turning the key off and putting the yellow to the one you think it is and red to the one you think it is, if you have have it right you will hear the CD player make a click run sound...... if not you will not hear any thing.

SOURCE: kenwood kdc 3011 rests its self every time i turn the car off

This means that the power lead you connected the red and yellow to is a switched live and each time you turn off the ignition the power goes off and therefore resets. to fix this problem you need to connect the yellow to a permanent 12v supply that stays live when you turn off the ignition.

My Kenwood KDC-U453 cd receiver displays "PROTECT" on connection and nothing works - any solutions appreciated!!!!

Pull the radio out, tape off all wires but yellow, red and black. Twist red/ yellow together and attach to positive 12 volt, attach black wire to negative 12 volts. Turn on radio and see if it comes out of protect mode. If it does, you will have to troubleshoot all of the speaker wires to find a short.

Hi, my kenwood kdc-mp336 has just been installed but will not remember settings when car ignition is off, how can this be rectified?

sounds like you have the yellow wire connected to a switched power source. the yellow wire needs to go to a constant power source (still hot when key is off).

the power terminals from the trailer arent direct connected to the battery terminals.when you are plugged to the mains the battery is charging and disconnect [via a relay perhaps]the orange terminal from batt+.try to make anew connection from the trailers battery terminals with a new fuse separated from all trailers circuit'use 2-2.5 mm*cables and a 15amps fuse.connect the yellow and red to+batt and black to- batt.

I install a radio it dont keep a memory

Pull the radio back out. I bet you hooked up both power wires (red and orange or yellow) to the ignition on hot wire. Orange or yellow depending on the radio usualy goes to the ignition on hot wire and red to a constant hot wire. Check the radio wiring diagram or list. One of the power wires has to go to a full time power source. check the wires with a circuit tester with the key off till you find the constant hot wire (battery power)

Kenwood KDC-MP443U reverting to defaults

i don't think it will blow the unit if swapped...both of them should have power (~positive 12volts)...in the red wire power is supposed to cut off when you turn the ignition key to off...and the yellow wire is supposed to have power constantly(memory)
