Question about Acer Aspire 5720-6661 Notebook PC

2 Answers

I have an ACER Aspire 5720 notebook. The internal speakers stopped working once I put the 3.5mm headphone jack in. Now sound is only obtained when headphones are plugged in. Realtek High Definition playback device is set to Speakers, not digital audio. I believe it is due to the combined analogue and digital output socket that Acer uses. The red light is now permanently on for the socket. Acer tech support have told me to recover the whole system, but it will mean that I will lose everything as all defaults will be reset and overwritten. Any advice would be greatly appreciated as it appears lots of people have the same problem on the web, but no answers are posted. Thanks.

Just solved this one. There is a small switch in back of the audio socket. A small screwdriver gently pushed into the socket and wiggled around will switch off the digital audio and restore the analogue speakers. Obviously not an ideal solution as I don't want to damage the optical output, but it works.

Hi

I don't think that you have to go for complete recovery. You can do it this way..

  • download the sound driver from the Acer's website and reinstall the driver after uninstalling the previous version.
  • restart the system and you will everything back in shape.
thankyou

Cisfa already has a solution for this. Take a little screwdriver and wiggle it in the headphonejack. There seems to be a little switch in it. It works...for me it did anyway. I am so glad with this solution! Would never have thought of this and recovering your whole system as Acer mentioned is a lot of work without any result probable. Just use the soluiton Cisfa reported. Thanks!

You should look in the Default Devices section of the settings. But it could just be bad contacts in the jack plugs of the sound card.

I have an Acer Aspire Notebook. When I plug headphones into the audio jack there is no sound, however, the sound works fine from the notebook speakers. Can anyone help me?

Hi, May I know if have tried alternate headphones and if they are the same?Does the headphone work when wiggled within the port if yes then the issue is with the headphone jack being loose and you would need to send the computer for a repair if covered by the manufacturers warranty as the headphone jack needs to be replaced. Thank you for your time.

Acer Aspire 1406 no sound issue

So sometimes laptops play up when the headphone socket gets a bit worn. If you wiggle a headphone jack in the socket (put it in at different angles, and rub around) sometimes the sound will come back.

There are two prongs that "detect" the headphones, and cut the speakers... and if they don't "un-contact" when the headphones are removed, the speakers stay off.

You'd need someone to solder a new headphone socket on the mainboard to properly fix it, but if you wiggle and get the speakers back, they should stay back until you use the headphone socket again.

No sound when headphones cabel is into laptop

If you are using Windows Vista, the solution might be that you have to go into your control settings, and set your headphones as your default speakers. This is a one-time deal, and once you do it once, then your computer should auto detect when you are using them after this.
