You probably have a piece of paper from a previous jam stuck in the printer. If it is making beautiful fans, then it is probably in the fuser module. (At least in my experience.)
I'm not sure about the minolta, but most printers have color coded levers inside that you need to open to check for paper jams. In HP's they are green.

How to clear paper jammed on printer mx318

Paper jam I suppose is the commonest of all printer problems as it can occur due to strayed, stuck bits of papers in pathway of paper tray, outlet, roller etc. I would recommend cleaning the paper inlet, outlet, and other possible areas to avoid a paper jam situation. I have observed that most people fan the paper pile to keep them dry or non-sticky. It's a wrong method because fanning the pile of papers make them go haywire and often lead to paper jam. ...solve other printer problem

The flashing lights are a "Maintenance request error" or a "Fatal error". Most of the time it is a "Maintenance request error" which means the waste ink pads need to be serviced. You can reset the waste ink counter but the ink pads will need to be serviced at some point.

you can try following points.......

1.turn off the machine for at least 5 minutes and disconnect the interface cable to the computer.

2. push and hold down the "ink" button and the "paper" button and turn the printer on.

3. When the "paper" light flashes quickly release both the buttons and then immediately press and hold down the "ink" button only for at least 10 seconds.

**You will need to try this several times to get the sequence correctly.

There are a number of conditions that can cause paper jams. First, check the condition of the paper. You should use only clean, undamaged paper designed for inkjet printers. Remove the paper and fan the edge to make sure it is not sticking together.

Next, make sure that the paper is properly loaded. The edge guides should be snug against the paper without causing it to buckle. Do not force paper into the printer.
Finally, check that there are no obstructions in the paper path. Use a flashlight to look into the printer.

Lexmark X544 continually jams paper.

Please make sure that the paper settings on the printer is in sync form the application (e.g Microsoft word), Make sure the output or mailbox option is aligned correctly with the printer. If there is any slight angle between the printer and the option, it can cause the paper to jam in the option, check the condition of the paper.

I keep getting a printer jam when trying to print, I clear the jam and then it sticks again, wither in the tray, the inner door or the fuser, any ideas appreciated..

Please check the error code when paper jams. The code will indicate where the jam is. Also let me provide some tips to prevent paper jam.

Flex, fan, and straighten paper before loading it. Make sure the paper lies flat in the paper tray. Do not load too much paper. Make sure the stack height does not exceed the indicated maximum height. Make sure the guides in the paper tray or the manual feeder are properly positioned and are not pressing too tightly against the paper or envelopes and push the paper tray in firmly after loading paper. Use only recommended paper or specialty media.
Do not load wrinkled, creased, damp, bent, or curled paper. Do not mix paper sizes, weights, or types in the same stack and make sure all sizes and types are set correctly in the printer control panel menus.

For Further Assistance, please contact Lexmark Technical Support.
