Usually worn parts in the gearbox, called 'detents'. These normally hold the gear engaged. Try holding it in gear with the lever. If that does not work then the wear may be further in, on the shaft spacers and gear teeth themselves. You may be able to get a reconditioned gearbox, depending on where you are.

Another cause mentioned by owners is worn engine mounts, so check those too.

if you have just bought the car change the oil and the filters asap on the grounds that the oil and filters may have not been changed for quite a while also change air and fuel filters also and grease any steering and tail shaft joints check brake fluid and water levels also and for any leaks around brakes gearbox and differential then every 5000km change oil and every 10000 change filters and spark plugs start with 4liters of oil let settle check level and keep topping up until close to full mark fill oil slightly under than over too much oil will build up pressure and burst oil seals in motor the more expensive the oil the better the quality its a bit like scotch whiskey best of luck glenn.......

Why the manual gearbox cannot easily changed to the drive gear? why it is hard?

if it is manual transmission and hard to put it on gear, have clutch checked for adjustment, bleed the hydraulic system, or possible clutch failure.

Why the gearbox can easily change the drive gear?why the 5th gear stop to drive?

first pull the fill plug and check the oil level if low add some if not then it's a bigger problem and you need to take it in.

I have a 1999 Toyota Land Cruiser, It will not move in drive or reverse, it's making a loud sound, and appears to be locked in gear when you mash the gas. Do you think the transmission is gone? or

Take a loom at the manual gear shift. Not the auto one. I mean the 4wd one. I think you will find it is not where it should be. Push it back into place.

If i put my shift in to the drive and i accelerate the gas pedal of my land cruiser (model 1994 automatic) sometimes the power is delay. why? my transmission have a problem and what i will do?

This may be a case of your transmission slipping. This could be caused by your torque converter wearing out or your gears may also be worn out. Inspect also the fluids for your transmission, they might be just low and would need to be replaced. That would be a cheaper fix.

When driving my land cruiser there is a whining noise ,Ive been told that it is the speedo cable, the sound is coming below and back a bit from gear stick, sounds like it could be coming from area wear...

This sounds more like a u joint or internal transmission bearing to me. Normally if the speedo cable goes bad the speedo will not work. It could also be the gear that drives the cable too. I would have a trusted transmission expert look at it.

Gearbox continually jumping out of gear.

If this is a Manual transmission and if you push hard and a shifter it still pops out your shifter may be out of adjustment. The other possibility is the synchro teeth on the gear are in a slider rings are worn in the transmission needs to be rebuilt. Good luck.
