Question about Dell LATITUDE D400 D500 D505 D600 D800 INSPIRON 8500/ 8600/9100/ 00R116 CD-ROM Drive
DELL Latitude D400 - what are the series of (blinking) icons (beside the power icon) just beneath the laptop monitor and how do they function?
Sometimes this indicate a fault with memory or the system itsef. Before you begin you will have to remove the battery and the ac adapter.Remove the memory modules .Replace the battery and the ac adapter without the memory.Power it on if it comes on and beep several times then the memory is bad.If not remove the battery and the ac once again.Press and hold the power button for twenty seconds to clear the nonvol memory.Replace the memory the battery and the ac adapter. If still no go remove all the same items along with the hard drive and cd rom,Insert the battery and the ac adapter try again. If you hear a beep this time replace the battery(remember whenever you install to remove power). If nothing works and you none of the desired results you will have to replace the motherboard.

Dell has their own forums setup that would contain the code readout for LED flashing. I can't recall offhand
