Question about Hotpoint WM56 Front Load Washer
Your leak is most likely in the boot. The rubber gasket between the drum and the front of machine. Sounds like when the element was catching it created a hole in the boot. Common problem also expensive and labor intensive. Sorry to be the barer of bad news.

Testimonial: "YOU WERE SPOT ALL ON EVERYTHING STRIPPED DOWN AND FOUND SEVERAL HOLES. A LESSON NOT TO IGNORE FUNNY NOISIES FOR TOO LONG. THANKS GOT A NEW ONE THANKS"
You will have to remove front panel of washer , and replace the heater, and heater retaining plate, which is the piece that has come off.
