Question about Washing Machines

1 Answer

I bought a used washing machine yesterday from a friend. We installed it together and I noticed sudy water leaking from the front and back of the bottom of the washer. He said he hadnt used them for a while because he didnt have hook ups at the apartment he had been living in, but worked perfectly beforehand. His dad bought them used for him and he remembered that happening at first too but that it just sort of stopped. I asked my mom and she said that she had heard the same thing about a water heater last week that she was installing in her home. Is it true that the hoses expand or something to that effect? Thanks

If it set for a long period of time, then the main tub seal may have gotten dried out. Storage is hard on items like seals and belts. It may swell some and seal itself with some use, but there is no guarantee that it will. Hope this helped.

Washer is leaking while it is just setting still.

The first thing that I would check, is the hot & cold water hoses, that connect in the back of the washer, to see if they are tight. If they are tight and still leaking from there, then the rubber washer, inside the brass fitting part needs replaced. If that doesn't help, then disconnect the power, and water hoses, then turn the washer over and check the water hose underneath, to see if its leaking. One of these hoses has to be the problem.

Stackable maytag washer and dryer

Hello, on most Maytag units you can take the the front panel off by removing 2 phillips screws , 1 on each side of the front panel. With the panel off you can run the machine and see where the water is coming from. Good luck

LG Tromm WM0642HW washer leaking water!

I have the same problem - just a small amount of water leaking out from under the machine. I removed the top cover and found one of the water lines rubs on the vent tube and has wore completely through. Should be an easy fix, as the line runs from the #2 spigot on the water inlet to the detergent box - both connections are right on top.

Water leaks through bottom of Front door

The manufactures suggest putting washers on the back side of the hinge to draw the door tighter to the seal, otherwise you may have to replace the seal.

Water leaking

Leaking pump or drain connexion most likely you will have to get under to check it out. Put a several sheet to news paper under the machine and pull it out as it stands to see where the water is coming from front/back/sides Do a wash and repeat. But you will need the service of an engineer I guess unless you are good with a wrench.

Machine leaks

Leaking water usually comes from hoses or connections. Be sure that water appearing to be a leak isn't drain water from a backed-up standpipe (see HERE for information on clearing clogged drains). NOTE: To prevent serious flood damage that can occur if washing machine supply hoses burst, be sure to install "no-burst" stainless-steel mesh hoses and lever-type shutoff valves, as shown in the illustration. With these, you can easily turn off the levers for both hot and cold water between wash days. 1) Check the fittings where hoses connect to the faucets and to the back of the washing machine. Also look for worn or leaky hoses. Tighten couplings or hose clamps if necessary, or replace hoses altogether (be sure to turn the water off before removing hoses and drain them into a bucket after disconnecting them). 2) Determine whether machine is over-sudsing during wash loads-- this can cause the entire washing machine to overflow. Reduce suds by pouring a mixture of 1/2 cup of white vinegar and 1 quart water into the washer. Then switch to less detergent or use a low-sudsing variety. 3) Call a repairperson. The machine may have a faulty basket gasket or tub seal and bearing that must be replaced.
