Question about Intex Automatic Salt Water System for Above Ground Saltwater Pool

2 Answers

Low flow indicator light comes on chronically. Never gets to chlorine production. Flushed out everything, tubes, water flow sensor & flap, new filter. Unplugged cord to reset computer. All connections tight. This unit is less than month old. Never has produced enough chlorine to show up in water strip test. What else can I do?

If you have excessive calcium in your pool the calcium will solidify on your titanium plates. Look for little bits of white scale (looks like paint chips) in the pool usually by the outflow. To fix, unplug the chlorinator, remove the inflow and outflow hoses from the chlorinator, also remove the flow meter (piece of pipe that has the wire attached to it. Look in at the titanium plates. If it has white calcium coating it, then flush with the hose till it all comes off, if it doesn't come off remove that piece of PVC and soak in vinegar (haven't had to do that but thats what the manual says). Manuall says to drain 25% of your pool and refill with fresh water but I elected to just keep cleaning it out when the alarm went off untill all the calcium in the water turned to solid (had to clean 3 or 4 times). Be sure and vacuum up the calcium in the pool.

We live in San Bernardino Ca. With VERY HIGH Calcium in the water we have to remove and soak the pates in vinegar twice a month to keep pool flow running smooth and water clear.
Very painless soak for about 3 hours then spray off and repeat and then put back and works like a charm are pool stays very clean and clear and great flow.. This will even work if your water turned green use the boost and a few days later the pool will be clear again. Just keep checking the plates to make sure they are black and not a lot of white on them.
Are time is much cheaper then money. We love are Salt Water System it has saved us so much money we have had it over a year. You just need to get the hang of it and keep it clean and it will run great!!! Good luck!!

The low salt light is on and is not making chlorine. Salt level topped up yesterday as per pool shop sample. Chlorinator stopped sometime yesterday

the salt light indicates more than low salt level. now that you have eliminated that possibility, if the light is still on, there may be several possible causes. the cell may be dirty, or nearing its end of life, there might be restricted water flow or the water is too cold. these are all easy and inexpensive to check

No flow is red and no chlorine lights indicating chlorine

I assume you are describing a salt system.
Ensure all baskets are cleaned out, filter is clean and proper flow of water.
Check salt cell for calcium buildup.
Beyond that it could need a flow sensor replaced.

this might sound crazy but the 'no flow' light doesnt always mean there is no flow. if the system has a problem (low salt, low flow etc) it will stop chlorine production. to indicate that there is no production, the no flow light illuminates. check the salt level (min4000 ppm) if that checks ok, then be sure that the water is warmer than 65 degrees. make sure that the cell is clean and that the connections are clean/secure

The lm series chlorine generator has a tri-sensor inside the cell that measures flow, water temp, and salt level in pool. If the controller is indicating no flow after it has been cleaned properly, then the cell is most likely in need of replacement.

Most low flow alarms are caused by the pump stopping before the chlorinator cycle ends. You must set the chlorinator hrs between the pump cycle. Start and set your pump cycle, wait at least15 to 30 minutes and then set you chlorinator hrs and make sure to it completes it's cycle at least 15 to 30 minutes before the pump cycle ends, If your pump turns off before the chlorinator cycle ends, you will get a low flow alarm......

Low water flow code

Most causes for this code is that the pump stopped before the chlorinator cycle ended. If not, you may have a dirty filter, low water in pool that caused no flow to the unit or stuck flow sensor... Make sure that you sync your chlorinator between you pump cycle...

I have a Pentair 320 automatic chlorine feeder. I have filled it with chlorine tabs, but I am still getting a zero reading for chlorine when I test my pool water. Can it be plugged?

It can be but probably isn't. A three inch tab is meant only to maintain your chlorine level. You must first bring the chlorine level up to specs, by adding either liquid or powdered chlorine, than add one or two tabs a week to hold it at that level.

Water is leaking out of the far right burner tube, while pool pump is running.

sounds like you either have a pinhole in your heat exchanger or possibly a bad tube washer (seal). A pinhole can result from poor water chemistry or chemical exposure such as pH chronically low or a chemical feeder (chlorinator or salt cell) installed near the heater without a chemical resistant check valve. You will have to dismantle the heater far enough to access the heat exchanger and inspect it while the pump is running. If it's a pinhole in the exchanger, you will need a new exchanger. If its a seal, you will just need a new set of seals (washers) for the exchanger manifold.
