Question about Linksys Wireless-G WRT54G Router

1 Answer

I have a wrtg45 linksys and I have it connected to

I have a wrtg45 linksys wireless router and I have it connected to a AP Motorolla Wimax modem, the problem is that it wont display Gmail and many other sites when this configuration is used even though it downloads fine , works fine if i connect the modem directly. I tried disabling the DHCP server on the linksys since the Wimax has a DHCP server too, but it was of no help.

What is your operating system - Windows [95, 98, 2000, Me, XP, Vista], Linux or Mac? It sounds like a Vista problem to me right now. Please leave a comment with the information and we take it from there.

I can't get my Belkin G Wireless router to work with my Clear WiMax modem even after keying in the security key..is this router compatible with this modem?

Any router should work with any modem. Make sure you are running an ethernet cable from the WAN/Uplink port of the router to the modem, or in some cases it will be a USB cable. Also you can test your internet connection by plugging a computer directly into the modem.

What is a modem

with a modem alone you can only hook up 1 computer and have connection to the internet. Modem is not capable in wireless connection. in order for you to connect multiple computers to the internet both hard wire and wireless you should have wireless routers such as (belkin, d-link,motorolla,linksys, etc.)

I can't get the internet sharing to work. i had installed and configure the wireless router, Linksys WRTG45 connected to a desktop pc running win7. internet sharing is enabled on the modem. now we're using...

If you are using the wireless router then you will not use the Ad-hoc mode.
You aloso don't need to share the internet on the modem.
make sure that if you conecnt the computer directly to the modem, it goes on line.
If it is on line then you can connect the modem to the router and computer to the router.
open the setup page and change the settings of the router.
once ytou setup the router then you should be able to go on line on all the computer.
You just need to connect to the network on other computers.

My Linksys Wireless A P only allows one computer to connect

You need to get a router in order to share the Internet connection. The existing Internet connection (from the DSL/cable modem for instance) goes into the WAN port of the router/firewall, then you connect the AP to one of the LAN ports.

Today it is often a better idea to buy a wireless router instead, i.e a router with built-in wireless AP. They are very inexpensive.

Need to get wireless on my laptop,

No, the SB5100 is just a cable modem, not a wireless router. You will need to keep your sb5100 but you will need to purchase a wireless router if you want wireless on your laptop. If you can also plug your laptop into the sb5100 via an ethernet cable for your internet connection. Linksys and Belkin and others make wireless routers that you can use for your wireless connections.

Linksys WAP54g v3.1.Can't connect more than 1 computer wirelessly

That is normal for you not to be able to get online at the same time, you are using a Wireless access point, you access point does not have a dhcp server to share the internet on both laptops. What you should have put in there is a wireless router, for Linksys the model of a wireless router will be WRT54G or any model as long as it's a router.

Laptop

Hi,

It really depends on what "modem" Orange provided you with and how your personal PC is connected to the modem.

If the "modem" provided by Orange uses WiFi (such as Livebox) networking, then it is a matter of setting up your daighter's laptop to access and use the Livebox WiFi Network. In this case no router is needed since your modem is also a router.

If your PC is connected via Ethernet port to the "modem" and Orange's "modem" is a single Ethernet output port, you would need an AP/Router (Wireless since I am presuming the your daughter's laptop would be accessing the Internet wirelessly) such as the LinkSys WRT54G.

If your PC is connected via USB port to the "modem" and Orange's "modem" has only a USB output port (no Ethernet), you need to make your PC as the default gateway/software router and share your PC's Internet connection. If you are connecting your daughter's laptop using Ethernet cable, then you don't need a WiFi AP/Router but an ordinary hub. If on the other hand the new laptop would connect wirelessly, you would still need something like the WRT54G.

Hope that this be of some help/idea. Pls post again how things turned out or should you need additional information.

Good luck and kind regards.
