Is it a LCD type screen? If it is, look close, is there no backlight, or its lit with no image? If its no backlight, the screen backlight inverter is bad. If there's backlight with no image, can be the display, connection cable or mainboard.
Yes...My 50inch plasma is mounted on the wall; has been for four years. You must be sure to screw the bolts for the wall mount which will suppport the TV are in the middle of the studs. you can get a cheap stud finder at home depot from under $10.00. It's usually only four bolts to screw into the studs and you're set.
