Question about NetGear WGR614 Wireless Router

1 Answer

Security problems I just bought a laptop about two months ago as well as a wireless router for my desktop at home. Everytime I try to get on the internet at my house with my laptop, it keeps asking me for a security key or passcode. How do I find it and is it possible for me to find it on my desktop? What should I be looking for when I do my search, (eg. number, letters...). If Netgear is my source but Belkin is on my desktop, do I contact Belkin for this information or Netgear because it's the source?? Thank you ahead for any advice/information!!

Re: Security problems

You are looking for the WEP key that is configured on your router. Use your PC that's connected via ethernet, go to the config web page for the router and somewhere on the wireless security settings you will find the WEP key that was configured for your wireless network.

If the netbook is running Windows 7 and the router is encrypted with WEP, then you can try changing the encryption to WPA or converting the WEP Key to HEX and entering the key in hex to the netbook

My password is "wrong' whenever I try to connect on my laptop

That's firmware problem on your router. Try to download the latest firmware for you router from then load the latest firmware. After successfully updated the firmware, you need to hard reset the router by pressing the reset button for 20 seconds then unplug the power for 10 seconds and plug it back in. You will need to reconfigure the wireless settings.

Zoom aDSL modem/wireless router seen but not connecting

Here are a couple of ideas to look at first, assuming you haven't tried them already:

1) Does moving the router help? Sometimes a new DECT phone or a microwave, or even a piece of equipment at a neighbour's house, can interfere with the signal.

2) Does changing the channel on your router help at all? If there are many other networks using the same channel, this might block your own signal.
3) If this does not make any difference, it might be worth checking your security settings.

No internet connection with laptop computers in home

Good day!

If your Desktop computer is hardwired to the router and your laptop computers can't connect wirelessly, it could be your wireless computers are not synchronized with your router by not having the same settings as the router.

You can use the desktop machine to access your router web interface (setup page) to check the wireless settings such as SSID (Network Name-> Name of your wireless signal shown on your laptop computers), channel and security (wether it is WEP or WPA encryption)

The channel and network name will be automatically detected by the wireless computers. If you have an encryption/security on the router, you need to type the password on the wireless computers for them to authenticate.

Try these and post back if there's any progress

Connection lost everytime phones on

The phone and the router are using the same wireless channel and/or wireless band. You can access the router console by inputting it's IP address, usually by default, in the address bar. Once there you can change the channel your wireless signal uses to be something different you phone uses.

mairelina, if all was well 2 days ago then resetting the router should fix your problem. usually a small button on the back of the router.

chelliepooh, you need to check that the router's wireless function is on. connect using the ethernet and go to the config page (usually make sure wireless is on and security is set to wpa-psk.
