Question about Electrolux EL7020A Oxygen 3 Ultra Canister Vacuum Cleaner Bagged Vacuum

1 Answer

Wont stay powered on

I power on the vacuum, everything is fine until I start vacuuming. It shuts down. I can repower it back on, but it will repeat the shutdown. I have tried to use it without the powerhead, and it does stay on. Another thing is that I cant select "min, auto max" buttons. I did bring this vacuum to a repair shop and the owner said he wouldn't touch it. Parts are impossible to get.
I appreciate any input you can give me. Unfortunately I don't have the troublshooting manual or I would have tried to do a step by step test.
Thanks for your patience and kindness.

The gentleman wouldn't even look at the vacuum, he wanted us to buy one of his. The problem is, I don't know what's wrong with this thing... it's making me crazy. I had an old electrolux (36 years old) and it still worked! I thought I was getting a true Electrolux, but I just found out about the buy-out.

He is right - some parts for these are near impossible to find..

Did he mention what parts are not obtainable ?

This is a decent site that has allot of parts available ---> http://www.totalvac.com/electrolux.htm?gclid=CJqaz-e92psCFRmbnAod7FUuAQ

If the search for the part(s) you need is in vain - perhaps consider maybe finding a good deal on a used one or on Ebay or Crieglist.. Then you would have one with the parts you need..

My mom did that and it worked out well for her..
When she took her vac to the repair shop - they told her the same thing.. She went back with her vac & a spare vac she got from Ebay for $40.00 and the guy fixed it and she only had to pay for labor & still has allo of good parts on the spare ;o)

Hope this helps ;o)

Well - perhaps call around to other shops and ask them about it..

Perhaps find a shop more willing to work with you..

The one you talked to is lacking the "want to help" factor,,

and in my opinion he was unprofessional..

And perhaps also ask them - if you brought in a "spare parts" vac along with - would they be willing to diagnose the problem and exchange the part out..

Or ask them to diagnose the problem and perhaps it would something that you could do yourself..

"A possible alternative to buying a new one"..

    Hope this helps ;o)

There is a thermal sensor in the motor which shuts power off if it gets too hot but usually it won't turn back on until it cools down. It seems you might have a defective switch

I was vacuuming with bissell 3750-T and I shut it off and went to turn it back on and will not start or do anything, what is wrong?

If you can't smell burning then it's probably a broken power switch or the vacuum got too hot and the thermal overload protection has tripped. Try leaving it off for 15-30 minutes and try it again. The thermal overload will reset itself during this time and it should work again.

In the meantime, make sure you have power to the vacuum, check for any blockages and check that the rollers in the cleaning head will turn by hand. Also, give your filters a clean. Any of these could cause the vacuum to overheat.

If you've already done this and/or power doesn't return after 15-30 minutes, I would start by checking the switch.

A couple of questions . . .

1. Does the power switch feel "normal" - basically does it have a positive feel when you switch on and off?
2. How long had you been using the vacuum before it stopped working?

Take it to a local vacuum repair shop and have them replace the power switch, once you do that your machine should be back to normal

Electrolux Renaissance power nozzle turning on and off, brass pins hot

The deal with the Renny is that it runs off of circuit boards. Usually the problem of the main motor shutting on and off is caused by one of the Triac boards located inside the canister. Another problem could be the thermostat wire located on the inside of your motor itself. It's almost never the thermostat, so the triac board is most likely the issue.

As far as your power nozzle goes, the head eminating from the swivel body is in most cases due to an older design of the power nozzle. I would suggest investing in a new elbow assembly that includes a new swivel body as well as newer style of wiring that is proved to reduce arcing and heat production within the power nozzle.

In some cases, fixing the power nozzle will fix the problems you are experienceing with the main motor as the arcing happening in the power nozzle can in fact turn off your machine. So investing in a new elbow assembly for your power nozzle could in fact solve the problem in its entirety.

Vacuum doesn't work when main attachment is on....

S3765-040, power head would not run when the handle was elevated. Problem was with wiring from connecter plug on power head swivel into the power head itself, because of the design the wire tends to develop a short. Test it by turning on the vacuum, elevate the handle, then when it stops running move the visible part of the wiring with you foot/hand. If it starts/stops then you have a short. Replacement part was about $10.
