If you do not use the wireless setting then just go to your router page and disable wireless. If you do use wireless, then you need to set up some type of security. You can either use WPA or WEP. The best solution is WPA it is easier to set up and has stronger encryption algorithms.

this is what your settings should look like, but instead of the key in box 1, use something unique, try not to use personal information since it will be far to easy for your neighbors to guess.

My connection is saying my router is being hidden?

Someone set it up to hide it from being found by people who would use your WiFi for free, it's called Piggy Backing. If they can not see it, they can't Piggy Back.

Hi there, I am so not computer minded and would love your help please. I have a great new Toshiba Satellite 350 and have no idea and I mean no idea how to connect to the internet. I have a wireless modem...

You'll need to make some connections.

1. Either:
* cable-modem to 'WAN' (or 'Internet') port on the router;
* DSL-modem to 'WAN' (or 'Internet') port on the router;

2. Ethernet-cable from one of the 'LAN' ports on the router to the network-port on your Toshiba.

At this point, you should be able to web-surf.

Insert the CD-ROM that came with the router, and run the software to "configure" your router, including the "wireless" interface in the router. You get to choose an SSID (a "name" for your wireless network) and a password for your network (to keep unwanted people from "piggy-backing" on your connection).

Then, on your Toshiba, use "view available networks" and select the SSID that you chose, and enter the password.

Now, you can disconnect the Ethernet-cable, and you should still be able to web-surf.

Or, instead of all the above, make a date to take your brother out to a steak-dinner, and then "guilt" him into configuring your router & Toshiba.

HP C4180 Wireless printer lost network connection

You were probably piggy-backing on someone else's router, and they changed names, passwords, etc. But if you have a cell phone and internet access with that cell phone, you can set such a cell phone up as a hot spot (sharing internet connection)! The cell phone will tell you the SSID #, as well as the password which you will have to enter into the HP printer to let it connect.
