Question about HP Compaq ProLiant DL380 G3 Server

Second Led on HDD is flashing Red

Without any reason (maybe a lightning strike??) one of my RAID 5 configured HDD (of type: Compaq 72,8 Ultra 3 SCSI) started flashing red on the second led (on the Drive) a certain morning. I've restarted the server and pulled out the failed drive, during an hour the led was flashing green after I restarted, but then after that returned into red flashing again. Because the HDD are quite expensive I was wondering if there was something else I could try to fix the problem, befoire buying a new one.

You can run "chkdsk /r" coomand to recover your harddisk.
Also if you can delete partition and then create new partition thehn format it so all errors are fixed .

I have IBM eServer with ServeRaid-7K on board controller and have 3 SCSI 73GB hard drives configured in RAID-5 array. Hard Drives are running critically low on space and I bought 3 300GB scsi Ultra320 hard...

First, buy an external storage device, at least 80GB (although it's currently difficult to find any _smaller_ size!) and make a file-by-file, folder-by-folder, backup of your 73GB of "data".

Second, buy another external storage device, and do a Google-search for "drive image freeware".
Pick one of those applications, and do a "image" backup to this second external storage device.

Third, disconnect the 3 "old" drives, carefully label them, and set them aside.

Fourth, connect the 3 "new" drives, delete the old RAID-5 array definition,
and create a new RAID-5 array definition.

Fifth, do an "image restore" from the second external storage device to the new array.

If you have any problems, all you need to do to "back-out" is to:
* disconnect the "new" drives
* reconnect the "old" drives
* delete the "new" array definition
* redefine the "old" array definition

and you're back to the "old" configuration.

In normal circumstances it would be a USB 2.0 but I don't know what you are connecting it to.

Meaning of Symbols on Hd rack?

If the server is configured with split SCSI channels these indicate which bays are part of each of the two channels. The common use for this would be to use the split with two drives for a RAID 1 system drive and the remaining four for RAID 5 data or in some cases two sets of RAID 1.

Drive array problem

Hi Nick ,

As of now you can Select "F2" to accept data loss and re-enable logical drive. This Load OS Normally .
It seems that one of the HDD in the RAID 5 has failed , Did you notice any LED indications like red or amber on the HDDs ?? if so get that hdd replaced . Make sure the Failed HDD is replaced .
You can run the Array Diagnostic Utility from HP System tools to check the Failed Drives and also frimware version of the controller . If the frimware is not latest Update it from HP website. DL380 G4 should have Smart Array 6i controller .

Hope This was Helpful
cheers :)

it all depends on the number of flashes , pause, repeat.
Since the problem did not indicate any beeps her is the following info

Power LED blinks RED 2 times, one every second, followed by a
2-second pause. = Processor Thermal Protection Activated

3 blinks 1 second apart = Processor not installed (not an indicator for a bad processor).

4 blinks 1 second apart .= Power Failure (power supply is overloaded)

Other possibilities are:
5 blinks 1 second apart No memory
6 blinks 1 second apart No graphics
7 blinks 1 second apart System board failure (detected prior to video)
8 blinks 1 second apart Invalid ROM
