Question about HP Compaq dc7100 PC Desktop
HP dc7100 sff pc came with CD-ROM. I removed it and installed a CD-Writer from another HP. 4-prong power plug is in, ide ribbon contr. is in...driver recognized...troubleshooter sames drive is working properly...I can burn music or photos to discs, but upon play back...there is nothing there? The old pc had a third jumper wire...red, white, and black wires...the plugged into the drive, and into a socket on the board. I cannot find this tiny 3-pronged white socket inside the 7100...Is this wiring necessary?
Try playing the CD in another player, if it plays OK, than you have narrowed it down to a problem with your PC. If this drive had a wire that plugged into the main board than chances are you need to do the same thing.
