The bolts are torqued at the factory to a very high degree. you need a socket wrench with a long piece of 1 inch cast iron at the inserted at the end of the handle this will give you the leverage needed to loosen (and then re-tighten ) the bolt after you replace the blade

How do I change blades on a toro 42 in zero turn

Lift front of machine and secure,

Use a pipe wrench over top of blade and against deck, to keep blade from turning,

Use 1/2 " breaker bar to loosen bottom bolt,

Remove blade,

If the bottom bolt doesn't loosen, you may need a wrench at top of deck, above the bottom bolt, to loosen the bottom bolt.

Replace, or sharpen blades, install in reverse order.

GOOD LUCK FRIEND.

Start here to find User's Manual. Sometimes the nut/bolt holding the blade on is a Left Hand thread and requires CW turning to loosen and remove. Not sure on this model.

I cannot remove the blade from my B&D MM575 mulching mower. The manual says to block the blade, then loosen the nut. However, when I block the blade and turn the nut, the shaft continues to turn,...

You can use a pipe wrench on the shaft and a regular wrench on the nut. Disconnect your spark plug and tip the mower onto it's left side. You will have to use your left hand to go down through the mower shoot to hold the pipe wrench and your right hand to unbolt the the blade attaching bolt, it should come off immediately.
Remember you may have to purchase a new blade holder, since your problem shouldn't occur if your blade holder was OK. GOOD LUCK.

Replace blades on Mtd mower deck

no they are not left hand threads if nuts have molded washers you must use an impact gun. wash holds too much of blade surface and will not turn against it

Rider cutting uneven

check and see if you have a bent blade. If bent replace. If the blades are not bent then you need to check the levelness of the deck. You can measure the distance from the blade to the ground on all the blades. Make sure you are on level ground. If one set of blades is higher or lower you will need to level the deck. Refer to you owners manual. If no owners manual there is probably some hangers that are threaded and has a nut on it. Loosen one to lower and tighten to raise. Only do one side.

good luck

Bolt comes loose and rip cord is yanked from hand

  1. block off the blade and driver assembly with a 2x4 to keep it from moving
  2. remove the flywheel nut (regular hand force should be sufficient)
  3. tap the 3 holes on the flywheel (if they aren't already threaded) using 1/4inch 20national tap set
  4. remove the flywheel using a flywheel puller -- a harmonic balancer puller which matches the tecumseh bolt pattern on the flywheel also works using 3 1/4inch thread (20national, 2inch long) bolts with washers
  5. NOTE: (if the blade was removed/reinstalled, tighten the blade to manufacturer's spec of 60lbs) before installing the new flywheel key
  6. remove the sheared flywheel key
  7. clean up the flywheel (wipe off all the dirt and grease)
  8. install the new flywheel key (part 611004 for toro 20016)
  9. install the flywheel (pull the bail brake handle to get the ball-brake inside the flywheel)
  10. tighten the flywheel nut to manufacturer's spec of 37.5lbs
  11. prime the gas bulb, give it a pull and mow away

on blad removal the nut goes opposite to tighten, lefty tighty, righty loosen. Put a metal wrench or rod in between the blade and the guard to keep the blade from moving.

the hump side of the washer goes toward the nut so when you tighten the blade it pushes the washer against the blade and allows the blade to stay tight as the washer flattens some
if it still doesnt tighten and you dont need much to get it to tighten then put another regular washer between that washer and nut or you may need a new beveled washer

hopefully this will help you some

Take a pair of vise grips and clamp the blade to a 2X4 for more leverage. Some old edgers had a left hand thread.
