Re: not charging

How do you know the alt is good. have you had a maximum output test performed? chances are the regulator or the brushes are the problem.if the warning lights on the dash are still on then this indicates that there is no charge being generated by the alt as a voltage is needed to energise the ignition relay which is pulled shut which in turn extinguishes the ign warning lights.

Re: not charging

With that case are you having problem starting you car. if you hardly start your car then it really is not charging!
check for the relays and also the ammeter too. clean wire connections, rust/corrosion limits current flow and heats up wiring which may lead to melting of the insulation of wires then short circuit.

It just wouldn't start working one day. Since it worked fine the day before, it's like it has a blown fuse. Is there a replaceable fuse somewhere?

Usually, there is something in the motor which is a thermal fuse. It has a current rating and a temperature rating. Be sure to get both the temperature and current ratings on the replacement part. There is also a thermostat running in series with the supply. Check this part if it has gone open.

Cleaned the Gaggia MDF grinder and now it won't start

  1. check the supply wire IF IT NEEDS CHANGING CHANGE IT
  2. check the switch IF IT NEEDS CHANGING CHANGE IT
  3. check the thermo fuse if it is built in ( if it is resettable than reset) if it is not resettable than just make one bridge from wire for testing( you will need to input resettable one if motor is ok)

My grinder just stopped grinding... turned it on, heard a "Chunk" sort of sound and it stopped grinding. Timer works and light comes on but no grinding. I also cannot unscrew the top portion to look and...

  • it can be too tight stringed at burrs
  • some stone or metal part with coffee went between burs
  • IF IT IS AUTOMATIC, it can be one of 2 micro-switches or main relay, in this case you have power but only to middle of way.

  1. Release the burrs, grind one amount coffee with bigger granulation than go back again carefully.
  2. Disassemble the upper burr holder and clean carefully, all coffee and remains put in one plate, inspect with magnet, hand and than put all that in water. (heavy parts fell down fast in water)
  3. Check the switches and relay:
  • Upper micro-switch has an plate and one box where it is( box might be full of coffee or the plate blocked and giving the signal of full doser every time)
  • Lower micro-switch should activate every 6th pull of doser(he is below in mechanism of doser)
  • Relay gets power from micro-switches when they command. even we switch on if the commandsof micro-switch says off than relay will not obey us.

I have cleaned it and now it won't start

Hi. Use the process of elimination. When it is pluged to the wall socket. does the motor hum? If yes, that means it is getting electric. If no hum, the motor is not getting electric and there is a brake in the wire or the on/off switch, most time it is at the plug. ( a lot of people just pull the wire out by pulling the cord , thus pulling the wires out and away from the plug prongs. I would UNPULG the chopper and try turning the the blades, they should turn back and forth, if they don't turn it could be a build up of coffee grinds and dust. If your handi take the thing apart and clean out the motor conpartment and oil it. The unit if made like everything today is made in China and there is no place to have it fixed. Take in to account the shipping charges to and fro. Then go out and try to buy one made in the USA. Good luck. Ron

It won't start

Had this problem with mine too. Solved it by cleaning the area where the bin slides into place. Note: there are tight notches in the bottom track that are very tight, that must be clear of any grounds. Use the end of the scoop handle or a small flat blade screwdriver to clear the grounds out. Then the basket/bin will slide in all the way to turn on the safety switch. I clear mine every couple months to avoid this problem.

There is a fuse under the drivers side dash and just to the left of the stearing colum, it's about an inch square and brown. I know because mine was clicking and I had to replace it... good luck.. ;-)
