Re: Hi, I have a reception problem with my T8500 two-way...

First you need to find out how the radio is performing. If you have a freq counter, check to see if radio is on frequency. If not on freq then you need to send it to a tech with a service monitor. If radio is on freq and has the right amount of TX watts then the problem will be much simpler. The radio might just need a tune up, some techs do this for a nominal fee. Don't try this your self if have never worked on radios, you will damage the radio.

T8500 Backlight

Here is a link to the user guide:

I did not find anything mentioned about the backlight function. However, on other TalkAbout models the backlight will automatically illuminate when you press any of the buttons other than the PTT and the musical note, and then the light will remain on for 5 seconds before automatically turning off. I do not know if this is the same on the T8500.

Best regards.

Cannot hear transmisions all the time. changed batteries to regular alkaline from pack to see if the battery were bad. this did not change the transmissions problem. need help.

You may have one of the following issues:

1) Programming of special features is inhibiting communications. Reprogram the radio(s) back to a basic mode with the special features, code and Qt filter (if any) turned off (zero). Then check to see if communications improves.

2) You could have a Transmit problem with the other radio. This could be caused by a bad or low battery or even a sticking PTT. Try trading the batteries with a known good radio and see if the problem changes or moves to the other radio.

3) Your radio could be failing. If you have changed the batteries to known good batteries, and tested the radio with more than one other radio, and you do not have a programming problem, you likely have a radio which is failing.

18 miles max range but actual it can transmit and

The reason for this is due to various possible conditions. The first being obstacles in the operation range of the unit. IE> hills buildings trees ect. This can greatly reduce the actual distance the unit will work in. The 18mile max is probably a rating that would apply in the best opt. scenario. You would have to be on a flat terrain with no hills or valleys,no trees or buildings for the unit to reach the max distance. In dense areas of trees, buildings or uneven terrian you wont even come close to these distances. Second: any unit RF unit that is held in your hand or close to your body does cause the antenna to detune to various degrees the amount that it does depends on how well the unit has been designed. The more it detunes the less resonated frequence is recieved and amplified making for a weaker signal. In conclusion for the best long range reception be clear of as much surronding interference as possible and as high a possible above any elevated terrian

T8500 no recieve transmit vibrates when PPP is pressed

Try checking the vibra call settings for your vibrating issue. Also, as for the radios not communicating with one another you should check the programming of the frequency, interference eliminator and the Qt filter. All radios must be identical to work together.

Problem with Motorola t8500

Check your Qt filter setting. It works best in the "off" position.

It is likely you have the Interference Eliminator Code (aka Private Line or PL) set differently among the 4 radios. Your T8500 has 22 built in frequencies (noted by the BIG number on your screen) and 121 selectable PL codes (noted by the small number below the BIG number on your screen). All four of your radios must match on both numbers to communicate.

Use the menu button until the code starts to flash. Use the + or - button to select the code. Once you have selected the code you can press the PTT button to lock it in; or you can press the menu button to continue programming other features.
