The main reason for a chain to tighten is because it is not getting enough oil to the bar, or too thin an oil is being used, you should see a good spray of oil off the end of the bar when held against a tree stump, if not try adjusting the flow if it has an adjuster.
Make sure the saw is pumping oil to the bar and chain and that the chain turns by hand freely. If ok, is there a sheared or missing key between the clutch center hub and the crankshaft?
ProMac 850 is 82cc capacity motor & Fuel mix is 25:1 - especially now that we only have unleaded... best to use BP Ultra 98 octane as these saws were designed to run on Super leaded fuel. I used to own a 797 Super (123cc motor)

I have found an owners manual on E-bay for 7.99 + Shipping. Will this suit your needs? The Auction on it ends on Sunday the 25. Take a look at http://cgi.ebay.com/McCULLOCH-CHAIN-SAW-PARTS-MANUAL-FOR-PRO-MAC-610-%2F-650_W0QQitemZ360124205014QQcmdZViewItemQQimsxZ20090119?IMSfp=TL090119129004r31016 Hope this works out for you.
The McCulloch ProMac 600 series (610/650) doesn't recommend a saw chain replacement part because you can get differently-sized bars for it. This one came with a 20" bar.
According to an Amazon.com search tonight, the Oregon company makes a replacement part stock number D70. I have got an Oregon H78 replacement chain at my hardware store and it's a hair too small. Not all 20" saw chains are created equal!!
