My Dell XPS M140 will not turn on. I thought it was the battery but have installed a new type C9551 battery and the laptop is still not working. It is plugged in to a working outlet.

I see the green light turn on the AC adaptor when I plug it in to the power source. I am assuming that the power source is working correctly. Where do I find the other light you mentioned? How do I know that the new battery is being charged?

    Thanks,

    Jessie

It may mean a snapped wire at the end of the adapter or the jack that plugs in your laptop. If you are familiar with the laptop observe if there is any light that normally comes on when charging is actually on.If not, then it means it's not charging. Now test the adapter with a meter for dc voltage or give it a quick taste to the tongue and if it you feel something then dc voltage is coming. If that does not solve remove battery and put old one and cross test if it works. If this still does not work then you need to di-assemble the laptop as the pin can be corruded or damage here.

Does the power/charging LED lights up when you connect it to the mains supply? What led your computer to this situation? Also check your power supply, adapter and power cables and try to replace them and then check again.

Hi,

I recommend Netgear or Linksys wireless routers/modems.

They work with just about any ISP (internet service provider) and are very reliable.

Dell XPS M140 laptop shuts off after powering on

Most laptops that I have worked on that power off that quickly turned out to be an overheating problem. Is the cooling fan running for the brief period that you can hear the hard drive before it powers off ? If the fan is running another potential resolution might be to remove the processor and apply new thermal paste.

DELL XPS M140

One of three things, 1- power supply, check your power supply with an ohm meter to see f it's getting the proper output to the machine. If the supply is starving the machine of power the charging system won't work to it's full potential. 2- the power management system on the motherboard, if this system isn't working properly it can divert power from the charging system. If it's just glitched then a bios download or chipset utility download will fix it, if it's malfunctioning, then motherboard replacement is the only option. 3- the battery itself, I have a Dell, and in the past two years, I've ordered two new batteries. The first held a great charge, more than three hours, but only lasted about eight months. The second only holds little more than an hour charge, but has lasted well. Batteries are just funny that way. Start with the power supply test.
