Question about HP Officejet 6500 Wireless All-in-One InkJet Printer
I encountered the same problem. Went back and forth through emails for 2 weeks with HP. Gave me many many different "fixes" but nothing worked. Finally called and spoke to someone in Toronto and after a couple of hours on the phone with him, he told me that it wasn't an HP problem it was a system problem and I needed to see if Dell could solve the problem (have a Dell 610 Latitude). It doesn't even get far enough to plug in the printer- it is a software issue. Short of wiping the system clean and starting over I am out of things to try. I cannot believe a brand new printer has this many issues. If anyone can offer any help, it would be greatly appreciated.

Have had the same problem. Contacted HP by email and they sent me am email response about running MSCONFIG which did cure the problem. Their instructions were very easy to follow, even for a 70+ years computer novice

This error comes due to carriage jam. Turn off the printer and unplug it from wall socket. Now, remove the cartridges and check for any dried up ink residue on cartridges on inside the carriage. Clean the cartridges contacts and carriage using a Q-tip dipped i alcohol. Let the carriage and cartridges dry before you plug in the printer.
Install the cartridges and check. If it still shows error then unplug the power cord coming to the printer without switching it off. Now, remove the rear door of the printer and check for any paper jams over there, remove if any. Wit for at least 15 seconds and plug in the power cord. Now check whether it is working.
