My Imation 8gb flash drive does not open in Windows

I have an Imation 8gb flash drive. I ran Mcafee scan on it, once when I attached it to my Vista laptop. Since then Windows Vista does not recognize it when plugged into the usb.
It says 'Please insert a disk into Removable Disk F:'
Ubuntu Linux OS also does not show it as mounted. I can not read or write from the drive.
What should I do?

I you don't have data on the drive you want to keep you could try to format the it? If you only want to use it with windows then NTFS would be the best file system to use. If you want to use linux and windows then you might want to consider Fat32. I think recent versions of Linux will cope with NTFS But I have not tried it. Anyway give it a try and let us know if it helpsl

SOURCE: 'Please insert a disk in to the removable disk drive k"

It's possible that the USB stick has "failed".
Shutdown the computer, and remove the USB stick.
Start the computer, and let Windows fully start-up.
Insert the USB stick, and see if Windows recognizes it.
If not, it is "dead".

SOURCE: my usb 4gb flash don my computer only reads in a secure K with 1m

Venture USB contain two partitions - one named 'Public' and the other 'Secure'. Unfortunately we have noticed a compatibility problem between these drives and some computers running Windows Vista. In these cases only one drive is showing in 'My Computer' - usually the 'Secure' drive. As a result you are unable to access the user manuals and software which are in the 'Public' drive and cannot alter the partition sizes to allow access to the entire capacity.

Please follow the below instructions to resolve the problem:

1. Connect the USB to the computer
2. Please unzip and run the attached program
3. After completion please unplug the USB
4. Re-insert the USB to the USB port
5. You should now be able to access both drives.

Please click here to download the program and instructions

What is the password for the new kingston USB DT109?

It is true that locking mobile storage devices, such as USB drives, with Imation Lock is an excellent way to protect your data.

However, using Imation Lock with a Kingston USB drive can create problems.

Learn how to unlock your Kingston USB drive so you can use it once again.

Ensure that your Kingston USB drive has been removed from your computer's USB port.

Start the Imation Lock software by double clicking the Imation Lock.

Plug in the Kingston USB into a USB port immediately after the "Please Insert the Device or Run This Utility as Privileged User" message appears.

Access your Kingston USB drive by clicking Start > Computer.

Double click on the device.

Start the Imation Lock software again by double clicking the Imation Lock.

Disable the password protection by clicking the open lock icon.

If you have password protected a USB drive or partition on your computer and have since forgotten the password, you will need to completely erase the drive.

Erasing and reformatting the drive will remove any password protection, software and data on the drive preventing you from accessing the drive.

The process is simple using Window's Disk Management utility.

Log into the computer as the administrator.

Open the Windows Start menu, select "Run," type "Compmgmt.msc" and click "OK." In Windows Vista and Windows 7, simply type the command into the "Search" field.

Select "Disk Management."

Locate the password-protected drive.

Right-click it and select "Delete." Confirm the action.

The drive will be erased and become unallocated free space.

Hope this helps.

If you're using the drive on a PC with Windows XP or Windows Vista, you don't need a driver - just plug it into the PC and Windows will recognize it and install USB drivers automatically.
