Start the brew cycle without inserting a K-cup. Repeat until reservoir is empty, discarding the mug contents after each brewing cycle. This process will help remove lime and scale buildup. Keurig recommends descaling your brewer at least every 3-6 months depending on your water source.26 Apr 2015
Not sure about your make and model of coffee maker. But I have a drip stye and peculator type about six cup coffee maker and I use a diluted mixture of a half cup vinegar and 2cups water and run it through the machines every few weeks and follow with a couple plain water treatments. This creates a hostile environment for all critters, algae, fungus, ants, bacteria etc.
First spray you house for bugs as this is not a good thing. Wipe unit with paper towel on the bottom section saturated with bug solution. Wait a Day and they will die. Wash surface and go.
A European Union decision on July 13, 2000, called for a statutory withdrawal from sale of lindane products by June 20, 2002. For "Atlas Steward," "Doff Ant, "Doff Weevil" and "Doff gamma BHC dust," the notices prohibited advertisement, sale, supply, storage and use by the manufacturers and their agents of existing stocks of the products. However, retailers would still be allowed to advertise and sell these products until the June 20, 2002 date. The Ban Lindane Group, a UK alliance of groups including Pesticide Action Network UK, Womens Environmental Network, Unison, Soil Association and Friends of the Earth, are calling on government officials to have all household products containing lindane withdrawn immediately, before the June 2002 statutory withdrawal. They also call for an awareness-raising campaign since it is likely that these products will remain in people's homes and sheds for months or years to come.
I HAVE THIS SAME PROBLEM WITH ANTS IN MY KEURIG. I've had ants in the past during the springtime and I've never had a problem with any other coffeemaker being infested with ants. I saw two ants actually crawling around underneath the blue brewing light while the machine was brewing plain water! I've de-scaled it with vinegar and have run water through it over and over and over again. There are STILL ants in it. It's currently outside my home and I have no other ants in the house. I called Keurig just to see if they have heard of this happening and they told me no and that it's an environmental problem. That's obviously a lie because all you have to do is Google Keurig and ants and you can read of other problems. I think I am probably going to throw the Keurig away . . .
